How on Earth does Mancini pick his team?

I used to go to the game and first thing you'd do is look at the team sheet and query who was playing and which reserve unknown would be making the bench. Can honestly say this season I have bothered looking as I know we have quality everywhere and in mancini I trust

The good news is that we have a spine. Hart, Kompany, Lescott, Yaya, Silva, Aguero will all start when fit along with Barry, Milner, Richards, Balotelli and Clichy most of the time. Then Kolorov, De Jong, Nasri, Johnson and Dzeko will switch around often so they all get plenty of game time. For me it's a system that is starting to work although at times I don't see the problem in retaining the same starting 11 for 2 or 3 games. I think the switch in personal could be part of the explanation to our slow starts in games, yesterday for example.

However, what you have to say is that for the most part of this season we have been very fortunate with injuries. That could be down to the rotation and therefore we will really start to see the benefits at and beyond Christmas. It's going to be an interesting season. IMO if that spine stays fit, we win the league.

Is there a website that shows the minutes on the pitch for each of our players this season?

It doesn't show minutes but shows the other stats. Yaya has started every single game for us this season along with Hart and so would Kompany until yesterday. Quite surprisingly (to me at least) Dzeko has started the most games out of the strikers.

The Barcelona team basically picks itself (when all fit).
Madrid the same.
I would say Liverpool, Chelsea, United, Spurs, Newcastle and most the other teams in the top half of the table (or even most the teams in the league full stop) have the same core team when all are fit. A little tinkering with a forward here, or a holding mid here, winger here yes sure. I understand our need for rotation, fighting on four fronts and all, but if I were (and I know I am not Mancini) the City boss I would want my strongest team possible for almost every match, especially Europe and the league.

I personally think Mancini has a harder job picking our team some weeks than an International coach/manager does picking from entire pools of footballers.

How much weight do Platt...Kid...Lombardi etc have, or is it all Mancini? I'd like to read other peoples input on team selection processes, as I simply don't know. I don't know how team selection works at professional level as I dont know any top managers, and have no personal experience. Ultimately Mancini picks the team but how much, if any arguing/debating takes place between the coaches and the manager?

Mancini's tactics and selections are always queried, and we do it at the pub everytime here. We keep winning so he surely must know what he's doing right? I personally love our squad and don't care what 11 he puts out, especially at full time when we win. But it's easy to say things one way when winning every week, as opposed to saying things another way when we lose. I remember after the Bayern loss, I for one and another Blue were questioning the use of Zaba and Kola, and some of the other selections that day.

Could you drop Barry...Milner...Yaya...Ndj...Balotelli...Micah...Clichy...Silva(no)...Aguero...Dzeko...Lescott..Kompany.....and others the way they have been playing so far this season?

Sorry Nasri, A.J, Savic, Kolarov you are the first four who I could see on the subs bench at the moment, and I don't think it would hurt to see Aguero watch for a spell as he's fallen off a little as of late. Not an attack on those four I just wouldn't have them in my starting 11 at the moment and turn around to the bench and look at the faces I have behind me. I personally would have a hard time doing that even if we were playing a Latvian 3rd division team on a Thursday night friendly.

There's been matches where Milner has been sub, Balotelli been sub (again today), Barry been sub a lot recently etc. etc. etc. I hate thinking of such amazing performances by some of our players are rewarded by a rotation time on the bench. Am I the only one he thinks this? I get it I get, rotation rotation rotation, but how do you drop (which is what you are doing by not picking someone in your starting 11, dropping them) players after the 1-6 smashing for example?

Mancini wakes up on a Saturday morning.............''Oh yes, who'za do I play today yes?''

Personally it's a headache and problem I wouldn't mind having and solving.

Unless you were discussing their involvement in the Tevez situation it was probably a pretty moot conversation as Richards and Clichy started against Bayern.

Here's starting 11's from spurs(A) Napoli (H) bayern(A) rags(A).

Spurs(A) : Hart, Zabaleta (Richards, 63), Kompany, Lescott, Clichy, Barry, Y Toure, Aguero (Savic, 74), Nasri, Silva, Dzeko

Napoli(H) : Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Lescott, Kolarov (Clichy 75mins), Yaya Toure, Barry, Silva, Aguero, Dzeko (Tevez 80mins), Nasri (Johnson 75mins)

Bayern(A) : Hart; Richards, Kompany, K Toure, Clichy; Barry (Kolarov, 72), Y Toure; Aguero, Nasri (Milner, 69), Silva; Dzeko (De Jong, 54)

Rags(A) : Hart; Richards, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy; Barry, Milner (Kolarov, 88) ; Aguero (Nasri, 74), Y Toure, Silva; Balotelli (Dzeko, 69)

The player stats are
Hart 4/4
Richards 2/4
Zabba 2/4
Kompany 4/4
Lescott 3/4
Kolo 1/4
Kolarov 1/4
Clichy 3/4
Barry 4/4
Yaya 4/4
Milner 1/4
Silva 4/4
Nasri 3/4
Aguero 4/4
Dzeko 3/4
Balo 1/2 * suspended for champs lg games

So from that it shows that in the 'big games', Hart Kompany Lescott Clichy Barry Yaya Silva and aguero are safe bets to start. Thats 8 of the 11. The rest will be selected around them. This shows Mancini knows the core to his strongest team.

My memory is awful. It weren't that match, but another, where we were questioning the involvement of Kola and Zaba and not the other 2. I agree with others that we are a completely different team with Micah and Clichy playing and that they both should start as many matches as possible. Kolarovs defending is shocking but then again he set up the winning goal yesterday so can't fault the lad there, and as wonderful a person, and as dedicated to the cause Zaba is, he is just not the same specimen that Micah is (and a completely different style of rb, one who is not 'as suited' to the premier league as Micah). I had a thread going about this fb/wb debate between the two pairs....Micah and Clichy came out on top every time. Premier league fullbacks now are more like wingers....Micah is the new breed, whilst Zaba is a lot more of a traditional full back (although he tries his best to impersonate Micah these days on that wing).

First the following will not be subject to rotation (Carling Cup aside):

Joe Hart
Vincent Kompany
Yaya Toure
David Silva

You could add Joleon Lescott to that list for PL matches although he has been left out of a couple of Champions' League matches.

The full backs (Richards/Zabaletta, and Clichy/Kolerov) will usually be on strict rotation as will Dzeko and Balotelli as striker and Barry and De Jong in the holding midfield place.

For the remaining attcking medfield places will be two out of Aguero, Milner, Nasri and Johnson (in that order of priority.

I managed to second guess the starting team against United.Wolves and QPR.

This is probably as accurate as you can get it. and adjusting the team to the opponent there can be some differences but, aside that 4 players, everyone is on the rotation.
