How to tackle stoke...

Stoke won at arse because they haven't the stomach for a fight not because Stoke are a good team. Quite simple, we do what we did for 50 odd minutes at the blue dippers and play football, keep possession, but we doit all match. If we do this I am certain Stoke won't finish with 11 players on the pitch. If they haven't got the ball they can't lump it up can they?
If any of you think I am being disrespectful to Stoke, I would like to point out that I have typed their name with a capital letter, not something I do lightly if you check my other posts.

Assuming either Balloteli or Dzecko are on the pitch, how about standing one of them right in front of Delap when he takes a throwin? That way the ball has to be thrown upwards rather than straight across.
you have to be stood three yards away but still an interesting idea

I think stoke have unfairly been labeled as a team who don't play football but just lump the ball into the box at every opportunity. I actually think they play a bit like tottenham with two speedy wingers, a big target man and a small tricky forward in behind him but correct me if i'm wrong haven't they been playing a 4-3-3 with the absence of Etherington?

Pennant and Jones are the two men to look out for and the ones I am worried about. This is not a game for Dzeko because their two centre backs are poor on the ground so for me its either Balotelli or Tevez up front. Lescott will have to be on his game and I think he is our key man because I think we struggle handling target men. I think we need to play our own game and keep the ball on the deck and make sure we fully utilise silva because he could tear apart their defence with ease. For the long throws I would bring everyone back and have silva outside the box who could have the composure to start a counter attack if it falls to him. One of the things I agree with mancini on is that we should clear the 6 yard box and allow Hart to come and collect the ball and we must make sure we MAN MARK Jones and Huth if playing(no zonal marking please). If they do play 4-3-3 then would could batter them in midfield but we need to make sure we stop the service to walters and pennant early in midfield and we need to play zab at left back to stop pennant and if Richards is fit he also must play at right back for his areal ability and his pace. I think for this game we should forget wingbacks and leave richards and zab back at all times when we are going forward because stoke are great on the counter.

My team:

--------------------Hart-----------------------
--Micha-------Kompany(c)-------Lescott----Zab----
--------------De Jong------Barry----------------
---Silva---------------Yaya------------Balotelli---
---------------------Tevez---------------------

At last one of you talks sense!

Be happy with this might just chance johnson over on left instead of Balotelli just don't know whether he'll put up with being kicked about without reacting and copping the early bath, and its a bit late to change the zonal marking system at this stage not a fan of it myself but think we'll have to stick with it pray to god it works.

To me if Teves plays he´ll make a big difference to you as will if Etherington makes it for us.

My big worry is Toure, powerful player who could rip us apart with his power. Silva also or Johnson as well as i´d say our biggest weakness are our full-backs.

All this long ball is a bit of a myth, we get the ball foward fast & have good pace out wide. Jones on his day is awesome in the air BUT his days arnt too often.

Good Luck

Zonal marking . . hmm that's a difficult subject. We do it but we're not natural at it as yet and when things get hectic defenders can revert to what they know best which means that we don't defend in zones and don't mark-up either. That's been a key element of our 'keystone cops' moments in defence this season.
Fact is though that Mancini's preparing our style of play for European footie and so we need to stick with the zonal marking and get better as the players get used to it.

Crewe fan here wishing you luck on Saturday. The Stokies are already banging on about being in the final and will be insufferable if they win, so really hope you spare us that and also and get rid of that United '35 years' (?) banner.
