How UEFA shifted the goalposts on FFP. The definitive story.

The King of Spain is a well-known Atlético de Madrid supporter, so where do you get this idea from? The Spanish monarchy have never financed any club. Certainly, Real Madrid have been favoured heavily by corrupt politicans since Franco's days.
Our owner is or was a RM supporter with probable connections there.

We were never going to comply given the sort of losses we were making in the early monitoring periods, but the rule allowing the deduction of the pre-2010 wages seemed to give us a shot at avoiding punishment. At the time, the club seemed desperate to make that happen, I assume for PR reasons. However, even though we were shafted (and great credit to you, PB, for being the person to expose that), it might now be for the best that we faced sanctions and agreed the settlement, as that should make it much harder for UEFA to revisit matters that occured pre-settlement.
Yes. As I've argued previously these sanctions were a bit of a nuisance but no more than that. I'm now coming to the conclusion that UEFA might well have made the changes they did precisely to trip us up.

It's clear now that UEFA had tried to disallow the Fordham revenue and also some of the Aabar/Etisalat sponsorship income because it saw those two parties as related to City. We felt it was legitimate however so it would have potentially come down to a series of court cases over the specific issue of related parties and maybe even the whole basis of FFP itself. UEFA would, I think, have been in a weak position in these cases, particularly over its restriction of owner investment. They therefore presumably wanted to avoid that possibility and changing the rules to ensure these factors were rendered irrelevant was the easiest option to achieve that.

Ok, why is it ok for corrupt politicians to finance Real Madrid and not for HRH to finance Manchester City?

Also, I thought FFP was introduced to reduce debt in football? Real Madrid have the largest debt in World Football. Manchester United have the largest debt in the premier league. We are debt free.

The people pointing the finger are largely hypocrites- Real have had a range of illegal financial benefits from local government - buying and selling land around the stadium and their training ground at huge unrealistic profits, soft loans from all and sundry, Barcelona have had money from the Catalan Govt which they’ve been told to repay - not sure if they have. Bayern Munich are part owned by Allianz, Adidas and Audi - who all have large sponsorship deals in place with the club - related party deal maybe? Hmmm. Forget any form of fair play where FFP is concerned - it’s a protection racket for those used to calling the shots to enable them to continue calling the shots. Look at how the three clubs I have mentioned snuff out any challenge to their dominance in their respective domestic leagues. They are just applying these principles to the Champions League where they have an absolute sense of entitlement.

Exactly. It is understandable to be able to bully the governance in a domestic league. Years of political influence in the governing body. I get it.

UEFA is or should be ringfenced from influence by individual members, be it states or teams.
