How underrated is Fernandinho?

He's absolutely incredible, and it's amazing how well he's adapted to being played out of position his entire time here basically

amazing player, my player of the season.
To answer your question, yeah definitely underrated, hardly ever gets a mention from these so called pundits.
Wasn't cheap, but as it turns out we got a real bargain.

He probably gets the recognition he deserves. He is never going to be mentioned in the same breath as Ronaldo, Messi or Aguero, because he isn't that good*, but I bet other fans would always list him in our best 11 players.

*As a blue, I love him to bits and think he's fantastic.

To be honest, I used to feel like City fans underrated him. But he's definitely been getting his just due of late. How long it takes for the world to take notice...? Well, judging by how long it took Silva to nationwide credit - I'm not holding my breath for a Fernandinho Tribute anytime soon.

Nevertheless, the dude is a fucking One-Man-Army. Absolutely perfect replacement for Barry, I thought at first. Now, I believe he's an upgrade.

He is not being played out of position though. He can play as a CM or DM. I believe those are the 2 positions he plays for City. So how is he being played out of position.

Just now? I think the cult of Barry has grown significantly since he left. Coz when Barry was actually here, he was the Navas of his time. Booed and pilloried for killing our offense here constantly. Can't countvhow often I had to defend him here. It's funny how Barry is now loved once he left.
That said, Dihnobhascbeen an upgrade on every CM/DM we've had in the Adug era. Yaya one, Dihno 2. Everyone else is far far behind.

Ferns true potential is held in check by having to cover for Yaya. He never complains, just gets on with it. When Yaya fucks off and Fern plays a whole season freed up we will see what a fantastic player he is.

Nah, not just now. But my initial observations on Dinho were understated due to not wanting to judge him too quickly like a kneejerker. I loved him from day one though, and maintained faith through his dips in form and last season when, due to team defending, he was consistently made to look like a buffoon in his one-man-army role. In fact, last season, I grew to love him even more, because of that.

I always liked to discuss Barry, as it was a great litmus test to figure out who understood football to certain degree. Or to judge who watched 90 mins and who watched MOTD. Damn-near every player in the 11/12 season, at some point, said that Barry was the outstanding performer in the team. But then, with some of the drivel you hear from the average football fan, I'm not surprised you had to defend him haha. He's not exactly a 'highlight player.'

I dont think he is,i have heard pundits and rival supporters rightly declare him the most complete midfielder in the league.Playing in a two alongside Yaya,i guess you need to be.

Well at City he's a lot further back than he was at Shaktar. But that could be down to a fact that that position doesn't really exist in our squad, he used to play in a position that would be between Yaya and Silva for us I guess, where he was able to get forward a lot more and his goal tally at Shaktar reflected that

When he signed there was actually a fair bit of praise, purely because of how he had bossed Chelsea in the CL. Jamie Redknapp declared it signing of the summer and the man to win us the league. He usually talks rubbish so was an interesting stance to take considering we had just paid 30m for a brazilian from a two bob league.

not only is he underrated by everyone outside of City, i think he's underrated by the management too. He's being held back having to cover for Yaya, it's about time we made Fernandinho 1st choice midfielder and find players to compliment him so we can see more of his attacking side too. There's not many box to box midfielders around anymore that can actually do it all. Dinho is one of the best and whilst he's got a good few years left yet it's a shame he came to City in his late 20's.

I've only seen highlights of last night, but once again he was brilliant from what I saw, such work rate, and not scared to have a shot when he gets in an advanced position.

He's so under rated by the pundits here, I don't think they even realise he plays, its all about the flair players for them though, I don't think some of them even understand the word "team" in a football sense.

Like Gareth Barry we'll only miss him when he's gone, different type of player obviously, but similarly under rated.

Why does every thread have to go back to slagging Yaya off, with comments like when "Yaya fucks off", really does my head in. He's been a fantastic player for us, and we would have won f**k all without him, he deserves greater respect from City fans.

Back to Fernandhino.

Player of the Season for us this season. Barely ever puts a foot wrong. He's had one bad game (away at Stoke) all season, the guy has been anywhere between really good and absolutely brilliant most of the rest of the time whatever the rest of the team has been playing like (some of our very worst games as a team, he's still been one of the best players on the pitch!).
