Used to hate it. Only ever dipped in and out for away games. Always thought everyone was trying so hard to be different and edgy.
However nowadays have visited for both work and pleasure and to me it's a quality city. Maybe only second to New York as a modern city (as opposed to Rome, Barcelona, Athens etc). Plenty of history to it obviously. Places like Borough Market and Camden Town are really special.
One of the most impressive things to me is the pub game. Plenty of traditional pubs with punters in there all day having a chat and a pint.
That said you couldn't live there. Love going down for a couple of days with the missus. I get a few pints and a mooch and she gets to go a west end show. It's not kid friendly at all though.

I think the old adage about being expensive is overstated as well. Either that or Manchester city centre has caught up. Not much different in the price of a pint between the two.
