I thought City were good without being anything near their best: Everton played well in the first half and defended resolutely and well in the second when we put them under almost unremitting pressure. The referee was not the worst we've seen this season but almost and he was bad. He got several decisions wrong early on, but really went overboard on the penalties he didn't give. I admit he missed a free kick in a dangerous area for Everton late on, but it is not playing the advantage when Besic climbs down from his piggy back on Aguero only when he has slowed Sergio down long enough for Howard to leave no angle for a shot and no room either. And the only excuse for his ludicrous award of a goal kick at the death was that he was not going to have Everton surrender their point at the death through a penalty. Unbelievable. But this was always a game likely to be decided by one goal and the referee is often the decisive figure in such contests as he was last night.
