Bottom line for City tonight has been an abject failure to turn a game of domination into goals.
Onwards and upwards but please keep supporting the manager and the team and the club. We're in with a shout of winning the football League here guys. This is major. Up the Blues!

The nearest we would have got to a free kick at The Etihad would have been a drop ball at the bottom of Joe Mercer Way! We are getting shafted week in and week out with refs. I noticed that other "I'm booking that stoner pen diving' Jones was fourth official. He ain't qualified to even lift up the time board!!

It looked totally clear cut from behind the goal, the deliberate movement of the defender's leg into Aguero was very obvious. I was surprised when I saw the telly pics that it didn't look quite as certain, but this was one of those occasions when I know I had a better view than the cameras.

The ref was a long way behind so I can understand him not giving it, it was down to the lino. Not sure what sort of view he had.

Pawson is clearly out of his depth at this level, as so many of them are.

Best thing Scudamore could do with the money in our league is invest in a pool of the worlds most talented refs and have the very best officiating our games rather than the clueless buffoons we are having to endure every week.

They should also have to attend a post match press conference like under pressure managers have too, some about to lose their jobs because of ridiculously shit decisions they make every week and explain how they can get it so wrong!

They live in a bubble right now, safe in the knowledge that poor performance will not do for their careers, no matter what the assessors at games or the PGMOL would like you to think.
 
Apart from the penalty I thought he had a reasonable game. I disagree that they should attend a press conference. Can you imagine if United didn't get a penalty in an important game, maybe a relegation six pointer for example. He would be crucified. The referee would get the same biased treatment managers get from the press. Plus I don't want them to become celebrity which is what Webb has tried to do and Clattenburg does now. The referee should be like a child, seen but not heard.
 
The reservoir of refs is rather shallow, and PiGMOL will necessarily have to take whatever 'quality' comes along. There is also the false notion that 'young' referees can be fast-tracked into the PL - Attwood being the best example, followed by the clown Jones.

They hide behind the cards in every match. A player, de Bruyne, questions a decision and the card is out! Their performances are mediocre at best, and they are being well-paid for average and less than average application.

The top and bottom of it is that they are attempting to perform an impossible task. We know that Aguero was fouled in the penalty area and the ref was too far away, decided beforehand that only catching the ball would deliver a penalty, or he wanted decent headlines the following morning. The game is too quick for them, no matter whether they have 20-20 vision. We had a match last night the result of which didn't reflect what happened on the pitch, and the 'visionaries' governing the game are more than happy with that state of affairs.

We also have to contend with intellectually-challenged pundits writing and re-writing the Laws of the Game to include such gems as 'foot on the ball', 'there was contact', 'he's not that kind of player', and other snippets of bullshine that do nothing but cloud the issue.

I can't see the situation improving in my lifetime! (Have I heard that last bit before?)

Quite agree, DEB'E.

Imagine the situation if there was a video referee judging whether there was a "foul" on Aguero or not. This review can be taken while the players are arguing with the referee over the incident, and will not take up any further time.

"Should that have been a penalty, Mr Webb, Mr Jones?" "No, the defender just about touched the ball, not enough to change it's direction, and the contact with Aguero was merely incidental. No penalty" says Mr Webb. "Despite the fact the defender didn't touch the ball, and the incident was in the penalty area, it was obvious that Aguero dived . No penalty, and a yellow card for simulation to Aguero, " says Mr Jones.

Sums it up, really.

The biggest issue facing the game right now and something the refs are also doing.

They are there to apply the laws of the game, not make them up as and when it suits.

They are making it more difficult for themselves.
