HS2 - Cancel it now

Haha, no chance mate. Not in the North!
They've been campaigning for a bypass to link Manchester and South Yorkshire for 50 years. Instead we've got the Woodhead Pass that is hundreds of years old and gets closed regularly due to bad weather or trucks getting stuck.
What's in a bypass for London? Nothing, so fuck the North they can make do with that old salt road.
Actually there was a plan to build a bypass road, however the nimby brigade put a stop to it, now they want one!
Also Britain's first all electric main line, which ran via the Woodhead route, was closed, which with hindsight seems to have been a mistake.

According to Johnathan Reynolds MP, they have once more delayed the project for the mottram moor bypass. Apparently they want/need 1 years worth of noise pollution data which will be finished in October, and will then need analysing before they can move ahead with the proposed route. About 18 months ago, they were hoping to start building in Spring 2020. These latest delays mean Spring 2021 is now the aim. I of course expect this will continue to move back, however hundreds and possibly thousands of new homes are going up in the surrounding area, and a proposed retail park next to Tesco Hattersley is also in the pipeline. With more and more people coming to the area, this road is now even more necessary.

Mottram Moor used to be a nightmare, now, even getting on to Mottram Moor is a piss take. If you coming from Barnsley direction traffic is now often backed up to the reservoirs.
It'll be put back again and again. It wouldn't happen in the South East!!!

1. anyone who thinks this is completely unnecessary has no clue
2. this is about capacity not speed
3. the very act of building it will shove billions into the construction industry and retain skills we're in danger of losing
4. will indeed get Manchester to London down to 68 minutes - scousers not so lucky ha ha...
5. its started already and much like the aircraft carriers, there's no turning back, at least not on the Brum to London bit

It will destroy great tracts of countryside and natural habitat.

It will suck in yet more foreign labour, who then need infrastructure and homes, thus causing more environmental issues.

It will expand London commuter land (as the video says) in a country that is already too London-centric.

You’ve mentioned one or two alleged plus points but why do you think it is necessary?
