htc phone problem

I have my contacts on my sim, when i get a text it usually gives the wrong name of the person who's texting, like I have my wife down as 'wife' and last night it called her Jez and last week she was jane, any idea why this would happen ?

its a phone Ive only just bought.

Are you using the built in SMS app? If so try a different one downloaded from the Play Store. I use Go Contacts Pro which works fine.
Having your contacts on the Sim shouldn't be a problem, you do have contacts named Jez and Jane?
