That meant EIGHT academy graduates played tonight, plus another 2 on the bench

Pretty much the perfect night, other than a goal for one of the academy lads. But great to see so many from the academy involved with 6 starting and 4 on the bench. To have 8 used across the game is great for the future.

Job done and onto the next round. Another great display from Phil and also pleased for Kalvin, who clearly isn't going to make it with us but needs to get his career back.

Professional performance. Pleased for Trafford that he kept a clean sheet, didn’t have much to do but had his angles right for the one that hit the post. Gonzalez played well.

A few of the others showed exactly why they’re playing against Huddersfield in the league cup rather than being picked to play against Arsenal in the PL

Job done. No thrills, no dramas. A thoroughly forgettable game which is pretty much what you want from the earlier rounds of the cup competitions. As long as there are no injuries that's spot on.
