perhaps you could point out when he has expressly stated that FFP was introduced with the sole intention of derailing Manchester City, rather than it being detrimental as a by-product.

Martin Samuel, I suspect, is a lot more privvy to the facts than you. He isn't even a Blue but he believes it's been introduced to derail City.
That simply isn't true. Martin Samuel correctly believes the rule has been brought in with no other intention than to protect the established order. He also believes that a bi-product of this is that it stifles the ability of teams like City to compete effectively. He has never once said the rule has been introduced with the sole purpose of derailing City.

Title of above

Financial fair play is merely to stifle Manchester City
by Martin Samuel

I doubt he wrote that headline. The substance of the article - his words - say no such thing.

hmmmm

City represent the greatest threat to that established order and, therefore, must be stopped.

Munich want a return to the days when the big clubs could just bully their way to a cheap deal. In Rummenigge's mind, City are impudent upstarts, their business unworthy of a 400m sponsorship, their players unworthy of a 20m bid; and UEFA are complicit in this arrogance.

From the start, financial fair play was only going to benefit the very wealthiest or the smallest clubs without ambition. Those looking to build, to grow, to succeed, were going to be stifled. So it is proving.

Munich do not want City to make money in the marketplace or in the transfer market, then they want their available funds to be fixed to income.

It is a shameful racket, but no doubt the economic gurus at UEFA will find a solution; they are so wise.

Obviously there has been a lot of criticism of City from the mainstream media since 2008, some of it completely overboard. I wouldn't say it was bias as such, it's just jealousy from journalists who support other clubs. Myself I can't blame them. If it was West Ham or Everton who was joint top right now because they'd suddenly got a rich owner and bought the world's best players, all while John Wardle was struggling to find a way for us to pay the interest on 60m debt, I'd think it was unjust.

Before 2008, I know there were City fans who perceived a bias against City but I never really saw it. We were ignored a lot, but that's because we were crap. There was also that 'typical city' thing in the media but to be fair that was well earned.

As for financial fair play, I think that's the reaction of European officials who were beginning to panic over the power shift to England. Yes it's an anti-City rule, in a way, in that after years in which 3 of the top 4 Champions League positions were English clubs the rise of another English powerhouse was the straw that broke the camel's back.
you sound like one of my bitter red mates for some strange reason. fobtrc

And you sound like a sleeper red trying to establish false credentials. Acting like the forum gaffer after 5 posts. heh.

I agree that Uefa haven't aimed FFP at City per se but at any club that may try and break into the cosy cartel.

When I did the original post I had no idea that it would reach so many pages, it is by far and away a record for me - many thanks to you all.

I would like to add that it is refreshing to have Stuart Brennan responding to the postings and he even replied to my PM. The reason for the removal of the comment box was, he said, due to the fact that stories with legal implications should not have comment boxes and so somebody made a mistake initially. I fail to see how it is all right for the MuEN to print the story but we as fans can not respond, it smacks of double standards.

I have also read all the arguments for and against the MuEN and am still sticking to my and I suspect the majority view that they have a leaning towards our near neighbours, frequently at our expense.

Once again thanks to all who have contributed, an open debate with an interchange of opinions is exactly what this site is all about.

If you go back and read my posts that's essentially what I am saying. Jesus we all seem to be arguing (myself included) over very little.

Can we all at least agree that Michel Platini is a very nice man
