Hughes wasting Ireland

In my humble opinion Superman is about to become a waste by-product of the Hughes factory machine. Put simply, Hughes is wasting his immense talent and goal scoring ability by playing him defensively and out of position.

I fear for Stevie under the Hughes regime, the best midfielder, imho, last year in the Premiership is becoming a shadow of his former self under the Mark Hughes defensive shackles. Other Premiership managers must be looking on in disbelief, relief (when playing us), and weighing up the right time to bid for him.

He is being used as a second fiddle to an inferior Barry, who is a very good class midfielder but cannot defend for love nor money. Ireland can defend and has better attacking qualities than Barry.

What do you guys think?

And which clueless and overtly defensive Welsh idiot was responsible for managing him last year?

i agree with you that he should be played in the same role as last season, but to say barry cant defend is quite utterly rubbish IMO.

Wrong.

He's been playing this way because we have two actual strikers to play now (one of the things you were crying for last season)

Wrong.

Hughes helped him develop into the talent that he is, but giving a midfielder as much freedom as Ireland had last year while playing two strikers is suicidal.

No explanation necesary.

Irrelevant, as he has now bought a player to replace him in midfield.

Decent post, and yes I was crying out for decent strikers last year, but Ireland should be given the free role in midfield, Barry the defensive role.

So you'd drop De Jong then? And you've just said Barry can't defend "for love nor money".

SWP should be the one to make way, but then Ireland isn't a right winger. It's a bit of a conundrum.

Stevie Ireland is the future of the club. This is the nth repeat of these sentiments in the last few weeks. He has the game to play anywhere between the back four and the lead striker. However, he still has to produce the goods wherever he is playing, and apart from the first couple of games this season he has not produced last season's form. I think this is a team issue, though. Apart from, say Given, Bellers and Nige, there is a frustatingly lack of consistency in individual performances between fixtures. Chelsea, the Arse, and those from the DarkSide, play week in week out where only one if any has a poorish game.

We haven't reached the point yet in the process, where we can press teams like the PieEaters and win decisively. It will come.

So Barry can't defend, but you want to give him the defensive role? And you want to give a midfielder a free role bhind TWO strikers?

And you're calling Hughes tactically naive?
