Imo three of the best players in that fantastic battling performance were Bridge, Kompany and Zabaletta.

Interestingly, all Hughes' buys.

All good sides need a touch of steel and determination, not just flair and pretty football, and they provided it (as did Richards and Onuoha too). Even Elano got stuck in.

Credit to Hughes, perhaps?

Just what me and my Dad were saying walking back. Hughes' signings today have been terrific, and in all honestly, normally are.

perhaps....just perhaps...Mark Hughes is starting to get the best from his players..
add to that the fact that no one is truly safe anymore.

Good point; but I think Hughes has been frustrated by the impossibility of buying until now even when he knew what the problems are, thanks to FIFA's ludicrous transfer window system. Thank God he got Kompany and Zab in before the summer window slammed shut. Now we will see what happens as more steel comes in to match the flair we already have even before Kaka. Another CB, a defensive mid and an old fashioned centre forward and we'll look pretty good plus having options for different games, home and away etc.

Maybe, just maybe, Hughes has conceded the fact that a change in the style of management is reaping some benefit?
Maybe some of the players have decided to meet him half-way as well. There's nothing like two blokes admitting six of one, half a dozen of the other and shaking on it. I thought Elano was up for it today, he got stuck in. Bridge looked good. Looking forward to seeing more of him. Robbie hit and miss, but he's up for it isn't he? LOL.

We just beat a bogey team and the team that really "started" our SLIDE last season, when we drew 1-1 on the 1st of December. Let this be a sign O'LORD!

I think there has been a realisation on both parts that there is something to lose for both Hughes and Elano. I also think Hughes has stopped treating the fella as a cnut and, in turn, Elano put the work in, in a position he excels in.
