Human extinction.

Star destroyers are cool..their laser weapons even make sound in space....
which of course is impossible.:)

It sounds completely daft I know but I'm being serious. I thought very very long and hard about this and it literally is only a coincidence that a spear shape that is used in star wars. Would be the ideal platform for a nuclear powered electro magnetic inertia driven space craft.

Even the dimensions of a star destroyer are around the right size for the inertia driven craft. As you're going to need a massive power plant, probably around the size of Heysham nuclear fission power plant to generate the amount electricity needed. Also that 1.6km length of the hull is going to be vital as the projectile/plasma/?????? is fired along the length of the ship and constantly accelerates. Until it hits the electro magnetic shock absorber at the other end (Force=M*A).

Fair point BP. We obviously need some stores/weapons, an inter-stellar radar and defensive aids.

You're welcome to take over from NF if you like.;)

Its okay. You guys can use my work for a royalty fee.

Currently i am experimenting with a "push" shield. If an object enters the coverage of the shield it is pushed back with the same force it came ( sort of like anti-gravity) The forces applied to the object would destroy it instantaneously.

That would have to be a heavy spacecraft. It's hard enough on earth.

I see you've made a fundamental error. You've assumed the craft needs to be heavy enough to overcome the objects momentum. This would be true if it weren't for the push shield. The shield absorbs the kinetic energy of the object, then it doubles it (converts the abundant dark matter into kinetic energy) and re applies it to the object. The whole process occurs within a nano sec.

Don't know if this has been put....but 21/12/12 isn't that the end of the world or did that just come from a film.....not that I'm arsed but if so
It's a good excuse to abuse the old liver in the coming weeks....

It came from the mayans..sommat to do with their calander..funny that they didnt foresee their own downfall and act accordingly.

Something to do with the last linear date on the calendar, as if it were to reset, although there is actually small debate that the date has passed as it was in 2011, some say sometime in October for belief and others for the fact 2011 could well have been the 2012th year, as the 2nd minute in a football match reads 1:00 etc.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot...

With nuclear fusion, if it relies on the collision/merging of hydrogen particles would we not eventually run out of hydrogen?
Or is there a similar method of breaking down elements to leave us with limitless hydrogen.

Also this talk of bending space and wormholes doesn't sit well with me, don't want this to go all event horizon on us!

Event-Horizon-06.jpg
I don't know if this is a joke but hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe. If we run out of hydrogen there isn't anything we can't run out of.

I did put 'at the risk of sounding like an idiot' at the start haha

I like that quote from The Matrix, of all films. Where Agent Smith says something along the lines of "humans are like a virus: unlike other mammals who develop an equilibrium with whatever environment they are in, humans multiply, increase, use up resources and destroy the environment they are in."

I'm more than happy to be a virus, haha! But at some point something wipes out a virus. I can see us being wiped out before we start occupying other Solar Systems. Whether it be a meteor, an actual virus or something else; I reckon we'll be gone and it could be quite soon.

The frequency of major meteors hitting Earth is quite regular. We are around about due a big hit.

Well, it's been nice knowing you all. Enjoy yourselves while it lasts!

I heard those lurking in the Transfer Forum will survive, wouldnt want to venture there even if I was the cataclysmic result of a meteor strike.

Bruce Willis will save us.

By the way, there's one Solar System and we're in it.

Well it's you who mentioned anti-gravity.
