Hyde gets spruced up for big day

Looking on there, it seems they are getting our cast offs in regards to sponsors that we needed when we had little money but can now afford to let support the poorer teams in the area....

As a City season ticket holder who gets to about a dozen Hyde games a season I'm obviously pleased that Hyde are financially secure for the immediate future, that City's Reserves are back playing there and that the ground is looking better than ever.

I have to say though that I have some reservations over a City badge being on the main stand roof-it's Hyde's home ground after all, which also happens to host City Reserve games. Hyde have a few fans who also follow other Premiership clubs (which is fairly typical of non-league fans) and I don't think that they'll be too happy at staring up at a City badge whilst watching the Tigers.

Hyde are delighted to have had the investment from City and recognise the benefits of the strong relationship which has developed over the last few years between the 2 clubs. Hyde also recognise that they would probably be going bump if it wasn't for City's help. City should be getting positive recognition from the wider media for this, but that's as likely as the England players reimbursing some of the fans who spent thousands of pounds supporting them in South Africa.

Hyde are a proud club in their own right, with a long history and a small but loyal fan-base who are keen to have a club to follow whilst retaining a sense of identity. Football is all about identity after all and City fans are rightly proud of ours.

Let's hope that both clubs can gain mutual benefits from the relationship, whilst retaining and even enhancing their own strong identities over the coming years.

I seem to remember City's name being dragged up over Chester's predicament - how we were ruining football obviously. I can't find anything in the nationals about this. I'm sure they'd find a way to spin it anyway, say:

CITEH RUIN HYDE FC's IDENTITY
but save them from financial oblivion

I've been to the ground tonight and took some photos. Listened to the fine detail about the ground and the relationship with City. 3 year contract so far, with the prospect of increasing it if it's successful or if City don't choose to use investment for other areas.

I remember that too. I remember that the papers made something of the irony, since supposedly in about 1990 the then-owner of Chester City wanted to buy us and use Chester as a fully-owned feeder.

Don't think we ever announced anything further than an agreement to trade youths with Chester, though.

Any chance of putting the pictures up?

Hyde fan here,

Last pictures I took 29/06 <a class="postlink" href="http://s978.photobucket.com/albums/ae269/GhostofRedPumpSt/Ewen%20Fields%2029th%20June%202010/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://s978.photobucket.com/albums/ae26 ... ne%202010/</a>

Things have moved on quite a bit since then though.

List of things being done.

Astro Turf to cover pitch side track on the leigh street side
Astro Turf on floor leading out of tunnel to touchline
Retractable tunnel being re skinned Blue
New Seats in main stand and new padded seats in directors box (heard this would be done during the preseason games)
New Score Board
New Electric sponsorship boards around perimeter fence
New signage to main stand roof fascia
Turf Nursery/groundsmans store at rear of walker lane end (being done as we speak)
New 8 sprinkler irrigation system (being done as we speak)
Repaint (being done as we speak)
New large screen in social club
Refurb of Sponsors lounge and dressing rooms (being done as we speak)

And yesterday I hear new dugouts were being done in the near future.

All in all a staggering amount of investment on the ground which we could of only dreamt of, and also a nice shirt sponsorship on top of all that to boot as well as being able to tap into City for advice on money raising ect.

As regards the badge, I belive there is going to be another new sign on the back of the main stand as well somthing on the lines of ..Hyde FC in pertnership with Manchester City FC.

We re also having Umbro kits as well.

Just as a side I wrote to all the league clubs in the area for donations to my daughters summer fair, got signed pictures from City, signed programme off Stockport County, free tickets for Lancs CCC and FCUM. United.....did not even get a email reply.

Sound like you are well pleased with the link up mate
How are the other Hyde fans taking it (them with a touch of the dark side in them)

Well pleased is a under statment.

Theres always people who ll knock any form of change but i d say the majority realise this is too good an opportunity for the club to be anything else but for it. For me personally a bit of paint on corrugated metal and dropping a word off the name is a small price to pay to be financially secure and now having some of the best facilities outside the football league. I only remember to well last September being at your place for the West Ham game stood doing a bucket collection trying to just save the club from oblivion.
