wonder what you all think now

4th and knocked out in qualifier for champs league or group stages or finish 5th or 6th and win Uefa cup? Which would you take and why?
 
thats a really difficult question. id settle for finishing 5th then winning the champions league. can i have that as an answer.
 
RRight....go on... you ask would we rather win the uefa cup or nothin...we all say yeah the cup... And..the punchline is.... drum roll.............??
 
Depends...I'd rather take CL and get knocked out in the group, but I'd rather take EL win than get knocked out in the CL-qualifyer.

There's a huge difference since we'd have to finish dead last in a CL group to not end up in the EL anyway.

As I said, we'd have to finish last in the group to not get to the Europa League anyway. No clarkie though, yes I'd rather get knocked out in the CL group stages than win the entire Europa League. The difference between the two is huge.

First of all, as has been pointed out, we'll have muuch more muscle in the transfer market if we are in the CL. Second, the next English team to make the CL will get an absolutely huge amount of attention, generating in revenue and whatnot. Just breaking in to the top 4 would feel like a title really.

But if it were presented as black and white as it is in this thread, it's a little bit harder to make the decision. I'd probably still take a bad CL-run though...I mean we fooled ourselves last year but no one really cares about the UEFA Cup/Europa Leauge.

Aww shit, this made me remember the Hamburg game and all the excitment of last year. Not sure what I want now...I doubt i'll have to make the choice though. :) If we go through to the CL we can hopefully get past the group stages, and if not we'll most likely get Europa League football anyway.
 
Im asking for the obvious reasons, its not stupid or trick question, we make the top 4 and dont win jack or get a decent cl run but may attract a torres, villa, etc etc

or we could finish 5th go on a UEFA cup run next season win it yet have no mega star because we cant attract them without champs league football so we settle for some squad players in the transfer window but we get our trophy

which would you rather? obviously finishing 4th and attracting a mega star even if we got knocked out early would put us in a good position for the following season where as winning the UEFA cup doesnt really help in that respect
 
has to be finish 4th,break the top 4 is the major aim then establish ourselfs for years to come.
 
When you think about it, the question really comes down to whether you'd prefer watching ITV1 or Channel 5.

Good Lord, that's depressing.

No-brainer - do not want to be in the Europa League at all - it is a competition totally devalued by UEFA pandering to the G14 clubs - we need to be at the top table

Aye, sound argument but I was dismissed as insane a minute for thinking top4 and jack would be better than an Europa League win. :)
And as I said - getting knocked out of the CL doesn't exclude Europa League anyway, you have to finish dead last in the group not to get Europa League, and I think we'd have to be in an extraordinarily hard group in that case.
 
If you get knocked out in the CL qualifying round, don't you go straight into the Europa League anyway? I thought Everton and one of the Glasgow clubs did that a few years back.
 
4th and knocked out.

Higher ability to attract the best = higher chances of success next season.

Yeah, that's how Celtic got in this years Europa League aswell.
