I have never...

I really don't know mate. The name sounds a bit Scandinavian I guess.

Thoron oakenshield is the name of the dwarven king from the hobbit. He is Thorin, son of Thrain, son of Their. king under the mountain. The movie adaptation is unfairly criticised in my opinion . Richard Armitage does an incredible job portraying the character. It would have been easy to make him unsympathetic but he perfectly balances the hubris and humanity of the character

That is what hurts me. The movies have issues I admit. But Armitage as Thorin is incredible. It is an award worth performance. He makes us sympathise with him when we should be having him!!. That is incredible

Also I would urge you to look at the documentaries on the DVDs. They really explain the motivation behind a lot of the decisions.

The problem isn't so much the films themselves but the fact that the original LOTR trilogy started out as 6 books, all longer than the hobbit, but they crammed those into 3 and dragged the hobbit out to 3, all for commercial reasons. That and Orlando Bloom is a ****, why do we have to put up with him twice.

*still haven't watched the hobbit films on general principle, they're a microcosm of why I hate adaptations of books.

That bugs me. After the hobbit the book publishers would have been happy with a straight sequel. Tolkein went away for 20years to write the follow up. When he handed it in it was deemed to big as a single book and was split into 3 novels.

Now imagine you where the publisher back then. Would you have been happy with this bloated follow up to a small novel?

Tolkein made a conscious decision to include as much material as he could in LOTR. In my opinion Jackson did exactly the same thing with his hobbit trilogy. He was not interested in a small movie. He wanted to create a movie series that could stand proudly alongside LOTR. Making the story bigger was the right thing to do.

I feel Tolkein would have agreed..

Never missed an episode of Coronation Street since 1969, and seen most of the ones since the first episode in 1960.

Never bought any Carpet from a shop in Denton

Never fell off a Triumph Bonneville, but I know a man who has :-)
