I need to start enjoying football again for what it is

I think it's down to indiduals and how they're made up in life. I love watching us play, I hate the breaks and summer where I feel lost so, whilst there's nothing I would love more than winning titles, cups et al, I would never prioritise that over supporting my club, team, manager. Yes I swear at the errors or the odd lacklustre performance and I am nervous every game and frustrated as hell when it goes wrong and ecstatic when we win but that's football and why it's so damned addictive and popular. I would never ever want to win titles at the expense of verbally abusing the players/club/team. I love the game, the ride and the spectacle that is football and feel blessed that I've got to witness two great periods in our history and now, regardless of the fickle 'must win every game 'or 'the players are shit type fan' or abusive opposition fans and the anti City media brain washing that exists, the football being played by City is as exiting and entertaining as I've ever seen and the best has yet to come.
Great post mate and mirrors my feelings on it too

It's just football, winning games is secondary to the day out, otherwise you'd hardly go to a game. If it was all about the result why would you go to barca at home let alone away. You go for that buzz that "you never know" and if we do win then lovely, if not then we've had our day out and fuck off home :)

Last season I didn't enjoy at all. Turned up at the etihad expecting to drop points no matter who we played.

This seaso I can't wait for matchday! Love listening to peps press conference me and start to get excited about the game (any game)

This is why supporting a "successful" team is not as easy as people make out. There is no real enjoyment in winning games, as there is the immediate fear about the next one and every defeat is magnified because it means less chance of winning the League. Expectations means less enjoyment. Instead, the enjoyment comes from moments, eg last season, Lovren's header against Dortmund was the high and walking out the ground is a buzz. Ultimately it meant nothing, but those moments need to be cherished.
You have had Aguero 93/20, nothing will ever top that, you have had the ultimate moment, that meant everything....

That's it. How do you go one better! We nicked the title off MANUre with nigh on the last kick of the season. From then on the tension just rises, and the more tension the less enjoyment. I bought last season's review but I think I haven't bothered watching it. It might still be in the cellophane.

This is exactly how I feel, just being part of the day with other Blues, that feeling that we are going to win no matter what and moving on if we lose...
I met a Norwegian bloke in a bar in Barcelona a few weeks ago, he said everyone loves City fans for their ability to move on and party after the game no matter what the result is..!
That's how we roll innit..! As for moaning, yeah we moan, so what, I moan about my missus 24/7 but I still love her....;-)

Tbf and in mitigation the other 3 seasons we haven't even managed to mount a proper challenge. I think that's what upset so many blues.

Winning the league in '12 & '14 was absolutely fabulous for the drama & style.

However, the intervening seasons have been a huge disappointment for me if only because we had the opportunity to win back to back titles, dominate & create a true dynasty & these chances don't come round very often.

The league is much more competitive now & winning back to back games never mind back to back titles is a challenge.

Fandom has to be about more than winning the title, probably in football more than any other sport. I'm an international fan but you have to identify with any club
or feel like you can. When I was a kid I supported my local FC they were a collection of rag tag amateurs. They went through administration into different leagues but I
still had the feeling of my father taking me to see them. A big part of the reason I connected with City was that same "we may be crap but we're still
first class" attitude. It reminded me of my local club I'd grown up with. I doubt I would have become a City fan it we're just about winning trophies.

The day i stop enjoying match day is the day i spend my saturdays wandering round marks and spencers or some other depressing shop. Its the one day a fortnight i get to head out on the train, few beers, enjoy the game usually (lets not forget we play the best football most of us have ever seen), have a sing, and usually head home pretty happy and quite often ecstatic. I get to watch some of the best players ever to grace a pitch anywhere in the world in my life time, how can we not enjoy that? Yes sometimes its a bit shit when we play poor, but thats part of being a fan. Enjoy what we have as you never know what can change and be taken away quickly.
