"American" generally refers to people from the U.S. In fact, people from outside the U.S. hate being called Americans (Especially Canadians, but that's a different story) Sooo... No, Shakira is not American, she would never say she was an American, nobody from outside the U.S. would.

im thinking the point was that whilst we know its in South America, Shakira would say she was Columbian, just like people from Canada would say theyre Canadian and not North American...and im guessing most would say they were English rather than European..:)

I think the point was that the guy from California didn't see the "S" just before America, and therefore thought that Bimbo thought she was American. The reason people may think Canadians are Americans, is because they don't know the difference between the accents, not because they come from a continent with the word America in it.

Well, I only have two International Caps. I have represented my Country against Ireland and Italy, and the current Mrs Richfan is the Italian one; she hails originally from the outskirts of Naples.

I do however have plenty of Premiership games under my belt, and can safely say that all Ladies are more or less the same.
