I reckon the rest of the season hinges on this one

A top of the table 6 pointer, and the tension is palpable.Morale is pretty low in the Liverpool camp though after scraping an uneventful late 1.0 on Thursday in the Europa cup. That cant have helped them going into this match. Tired and getting into the later stages of a dreadful season for them. Failure after failure. Today’s result wont drastically change the push for 4th,just kind of give bragging rights to the victors, plus hopefully a bit of distance for us if we win.

I don't think that that's too much of an overstatement.

The squad confidence is teetering.

Win today, belief will come coursing back. Confidence in the manager from players and fans will rise.

Lose today and I think the season will end with a whimper.

I know that a defeat on paper is of course not terminal, but I just get the feeling it will be a long hard road if Liverpool outplay us.

Really looking forward to it...with some nervous anticipation too.

Completely agree mate, Liverpool are starting to pick up and if we defeat them it would be such a massive blow to there confidence that I don't think they will recover it for this season.

I pray we attack from the off with Superman, SWP and Johnson supplying Ade with service, if we do we will win.....if we play the cagey style of recent games I see a draw :(

I hope we set a really high tempo, be all over the dippers like a rash, don't give them a minute to think, hit them hard but fair, get the ball down the flanks and we'll cause them problems.

Don't let Liverpool play in front of us, dictate the midfield/tempo, i can see them trying to play a european style tactic of smash and grab.

The idea that moral is low is in the minds of a few fans based on a shot of a vacant look on Stevie Irelands face as he sat on the bench and an exaggerated tabloid story by Bellamy when he didn't get his way. (better a tongue lashing than a punch in the face bellers!)

The OP thinks this is make or brake. I disagree, the numbers disagree and the manager disagrees.

There is a lot more riding on todays game for Liverpool than there is for us. We win today and Liverpool are out of the race. The same will apply to Spurs and Villa. Anyone building themselves up for a sudden change in the way we play today is in for a disappointment. We will set up the same way we have every game under Mancio. We will defend deep and look to counter. Pool will play the same way so we will have a turgid midfield stalemate.

I predict a city win 3-1 but it won't look nice.

Tend to agree with OP - looking at the fixtures a reverse today would leave me thinking we´d be lucky to win 6 of the remaining games - Spam , Fulham and Mackems away don´t fill me with confidence atm

Don't think one game defines a season, it is every game, but I can see the games against Pool, Villa and Spuds all of which are at home may have a significant outcome in the final position in the table. We threw this game away last year lets hope we don't do the same today. Liverpool aren't firing on all cylinders so they are there for the taking with a positive attitude. If we go out in the belief we can win the game we will, if we go out wanting not to lose we will get fuck all. After this game the FA cup replay at Stoke is just as important, as is the game at Chelsea next week. Seems our destiny is in our own hands whether we seize the moment or do a "typical city" is up to us.

I am dreading it if we draw.
I'm dreading it if we don't win by 4 clear goals.

True enough although I am adopting the tactic of avoiding the forums win, lose or draw for at least 48 hours afterwards. That way I can enjoy a win without getting sucked into a vortex of negativity and console myself if we lose without falling into the bottomless pit of misery that is at the heart of all City forums at the moment.

It works a treat as I was quite pleased with the draw against Stoke and am thoroughly enjoying this novel idea of being in the race for a CL spot in February and am blissfully unaware that this is the biggest crisis in the history of the club. Am not even fazed by the Mancini/player revolt although I do find the idea of Mancini being a hard taskmaster after the lazy days of Hughes highly amusing.

So all is good at the moment :)
