I took it as a clever reference not just to that particular day, but the years of turmoil.

Would,"I WAS THERE 13.05.12" not have sounded better or am I missing something?
(doesn"t really matter but I just wondered)

'I was there' is correct English. At the risk of sounding like a boring English teacher, we should always use the past simple with a definite past time, i.e., 'was'. The present perfect (I have been) is used without a definite time.

And yes, it pissed me off when I saw it. Fair play to the guy for making my job a little harder!

I was talking about this before the match when the guy thats has it on his shirt went past.

The phrase just doesn't sound right, although he must have had some balls to get it done before the match happened!
Its the guy who hugs him in the middle of the pitch that gets me.

Thats my mate who hugs him, i think he knows the guy.

It shows you how over-confident and assumptive we all were before that game.

Seeet Jesus, we so nearly had egg on our face.
Indeed!

Week leading up to the FA Cup final: majority of conversations i had with people and reading of posts on here were along the lines of "Stoke are shit" "4-0 or 5-1 to City" "we'll win easy!"

Final score City 1 Stoke 0 in a very tense game with few chances and a great save of a Kenwynne Jones shot by Joe to stop them going 1-0 up on 71minutes.

Week leading up to the final game of the season: majority of conversations i had with people and reading of posts on here were along the lines of "QPR are shit" "4-0 or 5-1 to City" "we'll win easy!"

Final score City 3 QPR 2 in a very tense and close game that we very very nearly lost.

I too have been concerned about this.

Surely "I AM HERE" 13.05.12 would have been correct on the day.

He could then have retired the shirt as a future ebay pension fund and had a new one printed with "I was there on the 13th May 2012 but had experienced many years of heartache in the preceding decades which made the event even more pleasurable, particularly when one takes in to account the twisting emotional turmoil caused by the match"
