What a top bloke Ian Brightwell is.

Was at the Chelsea game in The Legends Lounge, courtesy of a very generous Christmas gift from my wife, and he came over to our table for a chat with Peter Barnes. Really nice guy and blue through and through.

I've always wanted to congratulate him on his post match interview after he scored a screamer against the rags. The interviewer asked him to talk through the goal, no doubt expecting him to say something like "Well, I got the ball just outside the D, spotted the keeper off his line and curled it into the top corner" but instead he just said "I just wellied it!". Brilliant!

Peter Barnes was a good lad too, if a little serious.

Highlight of my life, when I turned 35 joined a vets team and went for my 1st training session with them, nutmegged him, prob in his mid 40's and was best player on pitch, but I had my moment

Very under rated player and in my opinion the best of the 86 Youth Cup side behind Lakey. And as been previously mentioned a top, top fella who is Blue to the core.

Could have done with someone 'welling it' yesterday at Norwich.

He signed my '5-1' programme for me a few years ago!

I got Steve Bruce to sign mine when I was a kid. He said he'd only sign it "because I wasn't playing".

Fair enough.

Always felt he suffered a little as he never had ''his own place'' in the team.
The longest lasting of the 86 Youth Cup team, played at left back, right back, centre half, midfield and upfront for the first team! Great servant of the club and a top, genuine bloke.
(glances over to Brightwell's signature on the signed ''Teenage Kicks'' poster hung on the wall)

One of my earliest memories was standing in the k stand lower as wee lad and witnessing his screamer fly into the top corner. I never did forget collecting all the coins that the dirties lobbed at us!!!

Was stood right in line with that, as soon as he hit it was going in. Wonderful moment. We should've won it, Didn't Whitey just miss one late on ?

Saw him outside Wembley after Stoke, pissed as fuck i said he was a legend, he shook my hand and hugged me, top bloke
