Ian Whatmore

Totally agree. I've had to deal with several PAs there over the years (not that Fariah Alam though!) and I couldn't believe the things they told me. Not just about how they treated women, although that was bad enough, but about how there's a committee for just about everything, business practices were totally archaic, and it really was jobs for the boys. It needs streamlining for the modern football world and as a former MD of Accenture IW would have been perfect for it. If it carries on living in the dark ages then we'll get nowhere in 2018.
Wouldn't suprise me if he ended up doing something for L2012 - he's pretty well known in the sports admin community.

yep, although I think he clearly spoke out of line re:adebayor, I think this is likely to be because the old guard are ganging up and making it impossible for him to do anything meaningful.

the FA go go through chief exec's like city go through managers.

For all the conspiracy theorists, a story broke today (hidden away in the depths of the Daily Mail today) about a French police raid on a drug and money-laundering gang that has links to Premier League.

Ok, it's in the daily mail, but let's put 2 + 2 together and make 6.

Random question. I wasn't listening properly to sky but, did I hear correct in that Whatmore's son is in the Rag's academy?

Dunno - I think he's got 4, so one of them might be I guess. Hard to imagine it though, if they are anything like their dad - he's a gooner. Heard a story about him going to some big function once a couple of years back and listening to commentary on Champions League on the sly on a radio in his ear. Stood up and cheered when the Arse scored.

Don't care what he does in meetings. He's a bad loser and a biased twat of the highest order who added to the Arsenal hysteria over the Ade game. A man of substance would have accepted the part his team and fellow supporters played in that day's events, instead of joining in with the cockney crybabies. Good riddance

The conduct of Ian Watmore around the "Ade-Gate" imbroglio was absolutely scandalous ... his inability to be impartial rendered his position at The FA as untenable way back then .... and since then he has done nothing to ensure that The Fa (and its various organs) uphold the Laws of Football in an inpartial and even-handed manner .... so for me its good riddance to bad rubbish.

On the other hand ... if he was a "change-maker" who became frisytrated by the "old farts" running The FA and he resigned on principle then maybe some revealing insights will emerge showing him to be a man of courage etc. ... but soemhow I don't see that happening.

What next for The FA .... we suffered from the pompous Crozier days, then the impotent Watmore days .... the mind boggles.

Right now the chances of England getting the World Cup in 2018 are asymtotic to zero I would think.

Cheers All.

-- Mon Mar 22, 2010 9:33 pm --

.... on the other hand .... maybe he just got through watching the joke of a penalty that Howard Webb gave the Rags yesterday .... then assessed the impact this may have on his beloved Arsenal ... then concluded that The FA are indeed utterly biased and that as CEO it is all too much for him to front up such a cheating organisation ... and so he quit in disgust at what he cannot change or influence.

If you've ever read David Davies's book "FA Confidential" you'll realise what a completely screwed up, unmanageable organisation it is. Worse than the Co-op.

Blimey, you should work for Amazon. Based on what you just said, I just bought a copy off Amazon! :o) (£2.76p inc delivery, used!)

Perhaps I should have mentioned (a) he's a cockney rag and (b) I used to work with closely with his father-in-law.

He's a huge Arsenal fan who also watches Altrincham. Very clever and decent guy and no quitter. It'll be the FA's loss.
