I listened to the Football Cliches podcast a couple of weeks ago, where they decided to pick an iconic game for every single possible scoreline. Great show, but skilfully (and deliberately imho) avoided picking any City games (not even 3-2 or 6-1), so i decided i'd stupidly do a pod on same theme for just City matches to put that right (now regretting it)
Muscle memory has worked for most scorelines - but if the criteria is "iconic", am struggling with:
0-0 (Joe Hart display at WHL?)
and 1-1, 3-0 and 3-3.
any suggestions for most iconic City matches? Can be bad days for City, not just good....
(hope this is ok to post?)
I still reckon St Vincent got a dead arse from that celebrationHas anyone mentioned the 1-0 v Leicester. Where do you want your statue Vincent Kompany match? Maybe the match itself wasn’t so iconic but the goal and celebration was.
The 3-3 v Rags in 71 was iconic. Showcased the best of Manchester and had that famous Franny pretenc dive3-3 got to be Bournemouth. There were also two derbies that finished 3-3. One in the 70s and Peter Reid standing ovation one when he was tooken off at about 85 mins at 3-1. Pretty sure there was a video back in the day showing both games.
1-1 Bradford
0-0 tough one. Maybe the LC final where Sterling scored the winning pen after being racially abused at Stamfors Brodge earlier the same season.
3-0 Arsenal away in the week after the LC final. Probably the best 25-30 mins I've seen us play.
Or v Bayern. Probably the best team we played in the treble season.
Bernie's face was a picture. He chased Vinnie to the sideline with a look on his face like a kid who'd got everything he ever wanted on Christmas morning.Has anyone mentioned the 1-0 v Leicester.
