Identity Politics

Great stuff.

Extremism should always be ridiculed and often combated. Because extremist ideologies lead to the same end whether they come from the left or right. That end is totalitarianism. The concentration of the determination of the all in the hands of the few.

And before anyone starts, Libertarians are the worst of all, because they claim to be neither left nor right, and their end is no leadership at all -- anti-totalitarianism -- which sounds lovely except its fucking odious dreamy idiocy to think any social entity could function like that, so it's pointless in application and therefore pointless period.

To paraphrase my favorite writer, there's a reason revolutionaries start so few revolutions. Revolutionaries tend to be puritans, and puritans are a pain in the ass.

Great post.

I don't understand Libertarianism.

I'm not being clever there either, I genuinely don't understand it as a political philosophy. It seems to be anarchism with caveats.

What about contract law? Who determines that in a libertarian system? Or family law? Or how to form a company?

The model of the smallest possible Government doesn't seem consistent as the key word there is "possible" and the individual definitions of that.

There are two main strands, economic and political.

It is possible to be an economically libertarian and politically authoritarian at the same time.

There's a website called Political Compass that analyses your responses to loads of questions.

As you say you can be left authoritarian, right libertarian or vice versa.

It also analyses the positions of political parties too.

I've done that test a few times, always come out either left authoeitarian or left libertarian.

I come out the latter.

Also enjoyed the analysis of different classical composers as well as books to read for your type.

Suspect most know themselves well enough to know which quadrant they would be in before doing the test but some might get a nasty surprise

Morrisey is now a Nazi. An eco friendly, vegetarian, tree hugging, yogurt knitting Nazi.

Love this image.
