If it is true that we have lodged a £18m bid plus Ben Haim for Santa Cruz who has been a one season wonder, I would be seriously disappointed. Defoe is a proven Premiership goalscorer and has gone for £15m.

Totally agree. Mind you I keeping thinking about Hughes saying he won't overpay etc etc and can't help thinking that £18m plus Ben Haim is way over the top for Santa Cruz. Although Hughes seems to talk the talk I'm not sure he is walking the walk at present.

Isn't there an 18m buy out clause for RSC ?
If so we won't be paying any more than that, and if fat sam wants TBH then his value ( between 1-4m say ) would be part of the negotiation. In real terms we'll pay between 14-17m, if it ever happens of course !

Thing with Defoe is £15m for Spuds, if we had gone in I bet it we would have been quoted much more due to "City Tax".
Regardless of whatever the club are saying is it not inenvitable that we are going to have to pay over the odds because of our financial position coupled with the much documented, desparate need for a large turnover of players ??

Despite the rhetoric, City are likely to end up paying top dollar for players. We are a rich club in need of signings, in other words a sellers dream.
We are in no position to wait until the window is about to close to save a few million at the risk of losing needed players. The result is that RSC is not going to be worth what we will end up paying for him, not least in that there is no way we would be able to recoup his price by selling him to any other club in the summer. But that , sadly, is also going to be true of anyone else that we sign in this window.
