There is a god Barry's gone!!!
............. has any team ever won the league back to back without adding to there squad?
I look at this now and the more and more I think about it we may not sign anyone to the squad. Mancini's hands are tied with trying to off load the Hughes players and not being able to add to the squad. It makes you think is our current squad still good enough to win the title again?? I think we are but there is areas were I would love to see us sign a new central defender to take over from Lescott but that seems to be on the back burner for the time being.

I am guessing no matter what happens in the remainer of the season we wont sign any big time players this season sadly. So looking at whats available we still have the makings of side able to go out and go for the title again this season as long as the spine of the team stays injury free. I look at the forwards and attacking creative players and we have more than enough cover. I would love to see a winger coming in but sadly that isnt looking likely.

Defence is strong when everyone is fit. We might end up seeing Richards moved central beside Vinny in some of the games. Think he will end up there in the coming seasons maybe not this season. Yet again you never know what will happen. I think if we are to win the title again this season it will be down to Mancini and his tatics more so than anything else.

For Mancini its vital with his selection for the league to pick the strongest squad and if that means bringing back in for instance Adebayor then so be it over someone else then that needs to be done. Mancini will have a major headache picking his squad if some of the dead wood isnt sold within the next week or so.

Good question, not sure if any team has won back to back titles without bringing in any players, one for the stattos out there I guess...

I'd be surprised if any title winning team has actually gone through the transfer window that followed without signing anyone. Most teams use the revenue and momentum from winning the league to strengthen their squad further, especially with the demands of Europe. Arsenal signed only Almunia and Flamini after the Invincibles season though, and didn't come close to Chelsea the following year.

Every club in the country tends to bring in many new players each season no matter where they finish, I doubt any team who won the league did not add any new players, not for the last 60 years anyway -and most of them would not win the league the year after.

We missed the chance to retain it in 2003 despite being better than United. Really blew it down the stretch, and had issues with injuries in defence(a young Kolo was being moulded then and it showed). We came back the following year and went unbeaten in the league. The next year we were comfortably better than United again but Chelsea had spunked hundreds of million on players and were comfortable winners. United were always outspending us back then too. In your case, you have a chance to really make a mark and dominate.

But be wary of United, they will beg, borrow, steal, cheat and whatever to get the title back and it wouldnt shock me if they win it this year or next. Hell they nearly did it this year and those bastards will come again so be ready.

Not that City fans need any more reason to hate United, but I bet that hatred will increase enormously in the next few years. Some of my best and worst moments as a fan involve matches against United - winning the title on their turf for example, the other side of it is losing our 49 game unbeaten run at Old Toilet with a Rooney cheating dive to win it and the ref failing to send off two or three of their players, also FA Cup semi in 99 with Giggs' goal, we had United that night and missed a pen to kill it, same season we blew the league away to Leeds on the second last game, a win would have done it for us.......United ended up winning a fucking treble yet were so close to being empty handed, not forgetting that CL final with Bayern.

We have a great squad but tinkering is needed

We NEED a CB
We Need a CM
We need a winger and need to get rid of AJ

Those three signings should do the trick.

And as much as i love micah he seems to be injured too often
We are hoping to have lots of games next season and with micahs injury record it might be too much for zaba to handle and zabais no CL quality RB

I have just watched the Olympic final and what it highlighted was the difference between a team and a team of individuals.

Without adding anyone we will be better this year. Better understanding between Silva and Nasri for example. Kun and Carlos. Mario one year older etc etc.

Chelsea are in for a transitional season. They will not be champions. Liverpool, forget it. Spurs may well improve as they have a proper if naive manager. Arsenal should be better too. But neither of these teams are quite champions material.

If United get RVP they will be able to give us a run for our money. but at the end of the day we have a handful of world class players. They don't.

We go with what we have and try and win every game in the same way as we did last year. Hopefully having Tevez for an extra six months will help. Further those players who have found settling into city a little difficult will now be up and running and those players who need to improve find a little bit extra. In addition the young players (Balo) will have matured a little bit and avoid the pitfalls which seemed to be at every turn. Another good season with the medical staff ensuring everyone is fit and ready to play will be key and if one or two of the EDS players can make the step up may mean January is a none event and could mean next summer is a none event as well.

I am just glad the season is here at last and transfer speculation even if it is only for one day takes a back seat.

Keep the faith as we all have done over the last god knows how many years CTID.

I dont know why this is here?? Has more right to be on the main forum than here.

I just think this season will be hard at times. The only good thing is Tevez will be like a new player for us. A good pre season and Tevez , Kun , Silva and Nasri when Yaya is away at the African Cup of Nations will be more than enough to sort out most teams.
The defence scares me a bit Lescott in my opinion needs replacing sooner rather than later. My view but will do for the time being. You never know this season might see Savic growing more into the club and him coming good. I think its make or break for Savic he needs to show signs of improving. Looking at how Richards progressed there is every chance he will do.
Also maybe Boyata could come good this season after his loan spell. I dont know but there is a lot of work to be done for those players to break into the team this season.

Honestly, we still have the best sqaud in the league by far as things stand, and we will be a year more 'gelled' and bonded by the experience of winning together.

A few things need to happen, AJ needs to step up and become a consistently international class winger so we have an effective Plan B (also Kolarov needs to beat a man better), Tevez needs to be really firing on 2010/11 form. Kolo needs to find some form when called upon.

If all this happens, we are in a very very strong position to retain the title without spending a penny or a eurocent. 'If'...

We will struggle to retain the title and if drawn in a tough champs league group it could be a repeat of last season. It's evidently clear the squad needs strengthening.

Whats the panic we have a good squad.I dont think we need scott sinclair. The real need is to sell some players like dejong adebayor santa cruz tevez and savic

How is it? Your comment is fucking stupid. Try and come back with something instead of something stupid like this. Lescott is 30 and we should be looking at a replacement for him now. Its my view if you dont like it so be it.
