if we finish 7th...

it's almost as if some would rather we didn't finish seventh so that they can say hughes is shit

maybe it's truer to say that some people would prefer us not to finish seventh this season so that the case against a manager they really dont rate/like is stronger.

can't say im one of them, but it's not as unreasonable as you make out. if we finish seventh, especially if we do it without a win at tottenham, i think i might feel that it flattered us a bit.

the key game in the race for seventh was always going to be the home match against fulham, but, judging by the line up and performance, the management team didnt realise this. for sure, they didnt help us get a result.

we'd managed the squad badly in the weeks leading up to this, constantly picking players carrying injuries, never giving them chance to recover. the arsenal game the week before presented the most opportune moment to shuffle the pack all season, a game we were never likely to win no matter how strong we were. instead, we picked our strongest line up and came out of it without 3 points, and some key players in bad shape. picking etuhu, and an unfit petrov and bojinov in such a key game as the fulham home game backfired predictably. allied to which, changing the formation cannot have helped.

so if we get seventh, it'll be by the back door, and the suspicion may be that it's due to other teams not fancying the europa cup, or by our good fortune if everton perform poorly.

even if these arguments are flimsy, there is little evidence so far that it will be due to good decision making and judgement on MH's part. a win against tottenham would go some way to repairing the damage.... here's hoping :)

I've been looking at the different views on Hughes on bluemoon for a while now and i'm just wondering, if we finish 7th will the hughes outers be happy to stay for the forseeable future or is it Hughes out no matter what?

If we finish 7th I think Hughes has legitimate claims to stay in the job, and I wouldn't be overly surprised or upset if we gave him that chance.

Personally I don't think he is the right man for the job regardless, as I think there are much better options out there for us.

Unfortunately we won't finish 7th now.

That defeat against Fulham at home really came at the wrong time.

Even so, I think we should stick with MH and see where he takes us next year after he has had another transfer window to add to his ever improving squad.
