If we made the semi-finals and go out.. would you class that as success/progress?

I think City making it to the CL semi-finals for the first time is massive progress, and not a bad season. We won a cup too so other than The Premier League which has been one of those rare bad or up and down season for most teams (bar Leicester and we can't win the league every season) I'd say it's not a disaster of a season. There is good signs going forward and much for Pep to build on.

Of course we would be disappointed to go out but we are building up to winning it in the next 5 years IMO with the experience gained. Only a matter of time =)

the Bluemoon is rising. Makes it even sweeter when the RAG's are going backwards at the same time. LOL

It's hard to argue against it being progress. It'll only be regarded as a success of any sort if we finish in the top 4 though.

That's true. Need CL football for Pep to work with otherwise it's 1 step forward 2 steps back.. but I think we will be fine, the lads are confident now.

It would be progress in Europe but lets not gloss over the awful Premier League campaign. It has been nothing short of a shambles bearing in mind the start we had.

But only 1 team can win the league.. and no team has shown 100% consistency apart from Leicester. Need a bit of perspective here, it's been a freak season for everyone.

If our league form hadn't been anything short of a disaster then yes it would be good progress, but being caught out tactically so many times has left us nowhere near the standards this squad should be setting, therefore that for me is a big backward step

Im sure the top brass will see the CL campaign and League cup as a job well done so to speak but as a fan, my first want is the league and we have to finish top 4 as far as im concerned.

I still think we will.

Only one team can win, but only one team has tried this season. I have nothing but respect for what Leicester have done this season but in all honesty if the so called big 4 had performed this season they would struggle to join them. This should have been our easiest title winning season ever.

I would though be very happy with a champs league semi, even if it was the end of our journey but we MUST finish top 4

It would be huge progress for the mentality of the team. Under Mancini we developed a real inferiority complex in Europe and we looked pretty scarred by the whole experience, to get to the semi's would really put us back in the right direction of thinking we deserve to be up there with the big boys and that we actually can go on and win it in the future. The league has been a disaster, but we know we can win the league so bouncing back from it shouldn't be too hard. In the long term I think the progress in this years CL will do us no end of good.

It would represent progress in Europe but a fig-leaf for a poor showing in the Premier League. A solitary league cup win in the last two years, plus no serious title challenge, equals under-achievement and regression.

Of course it would why wouldn't it. Never reached that stage before or the quarter finals until this year.

Of course in other competitions mainly pl we haven't challenged enough for the title this season or last season. Especially this season with the squad we have.

I said it months ago and @Damocles said he would quote me at the end of the season and I stand by my point: this is one of the biggest failures to not win the league title with the squad we have (yes we've had injuries but every player we have is better than Leicesters.

I don't really see cup competitions in terms of progress.

Semi finals would be a good achievement, and something for the club to shout about.

But doesnt really count for anything when next seasons comp comes around (presuming we're in it).

To progress as far as mentality goes, we need to beat one of the big boys in a knockout situation.

We are just competing against the teams we should compete against. I suppose you could call it progress in a way because we have vastly underperformed so many times, but in this competition so far we have lost twice to Juve & been outplayed at home by Seville.

Imo City's 'progression' was the away game v Seville when Pellegrini got it spot on & looked like tge penny had finally dropped. Then ripped it up & went back to the same stuff he was doing 3 years ago.

Psychologically we may have progressed but tactically we are still in Mexico 1970 imo & relying on individual ability.

true, there are 19 other teams that Leicester have performed better than, not just city.
Leicester aren't the only team who have out performed us this season though?

you are right, at the moment 3 other teams have outperformed us. its still a disappointing season, make no mistake - a semi in the chumps will make things seem a bit better though.
