If we made the semi-finals and go out.. would you class that as success/progress?

However, luck is always going to be a major part of any cup competition. Very few teams are capable of beating Barcelona so they will knock most sides out. How far you progress has to be used in some objective sense even if the quality of the sides beaten are not on par with Barca. Don't forget it is also viewed as progress with respect to national/club coefficients.

How does your logic work. You could argue the other way saying we made progress to get out of the group stages.
 
progress yes, success no. one good cl campaign doesnt a swallow make. not to take anything away from cl, but its been a dreadful season and looking forward to peps arrival

My thoughts exactly, especially if we beat PSG, and then drew Wolfsburg or Benfica. with Athletico somehow overcoming Barca.and the whole tournament becoming wide open.

The hype would be extraordinary, so a defeat in the semi would be worse than if we lost tomorrow.

On the other hand, a defeat to Barca in the semi would be grudgingly accepted
 
Progress of a sort....

If we get to the semis then we should be looking to win it , we may never get this close again. All the teams left can be beaten , we just have to hope we see a pragmatic side to the manager with an acceptance that we can't out football the best teams in Europe

I've got a feeling we are going out tomorrow though , we haven't ever turned up at home in the CL yet ,all our best performances have been away
 
I honestly believe last night's victory is our biggest since the QPR game. And if we're in there with Bayern Barca and Real all we need do is requalify and we will have moved up a level - despite how the league makes it look.
