Napoli away he was fantastic.
Spurs at home last year he was great.
Excellent against Barca at home.
Spurs away last year was a great performance.
Chelsea at home he controlled the game.
Arsenal away in the league he completely shut their midfield down.
Thought he was great against United at home last year - his goal was world class.

He was good in most of these games but I never once thought world class performance from Gundogan like I thought yesterday with Bernardo.

In the rag game apart of his goal which was top class, he also missed a great chance and went missing for parts of the game, would t say that was one of his best games just because of his goal.

That’s my point, he is a player that shows flashes of brilliance but he’s not at the level we need imo. Like in attack the players are in competition with each other.

With David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne, Gundogan can only compete in his dreams. With the level we wish to reach, as tough as it is, we need a player that can push these two. I already see Bernardo possibly doing that after only a few games in midfield. I never once thought Gundogan could do that despite all the games he’s played.

Can't get me head round the quote "but both goals were due to him being in the right place at the right time" I'd like to think he made 2 great runs of a very agressive press? Also he had some great games last season filling in for fernandinho.

Ok great late runs, I can give you that, the Barca game was two years ago though. Wouldn’t say he had great games filling in for Fern. Chelsea for example, they did not press at all, he keep the ball moving and even though we beat Spurs, they cut through our midfield multiple times but failed to score. Didn’t stand out in the Arsenal games either.

He’s never really bossed a game though like David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne or Bernardo recently have and this is the problem. He shows flashes of brilliance, can come up with an amazing goal or assist but it’s not enough. Sometimes it works out and he scores and we beat Spurs for example other times he scores and for example we lose to the rags. In both games he could of done much more to influence the games.

Different roles but Pogba is the same, flashes of brilliance but never a stand out player in 90 minutes. Only thing is Gundogan cost £21m and Pogba cost £89m+.

But were do you find a Silva or De Bruyne that's happy to be a back up to those 2 Bernardo will slowly start to become Silva replacement, so who plays as 4 th choice that's as good as Gundogan ? Comparing him to them is pointless. I see you have compared him to Pogba, difference is Pogba is first choice and their best midfielder , squad wise Gundogan is much better than their or anyone elses 4th choice attacking midfielder.

Yea true. Ideally we would want someone who can challenge KDB, DS and BS, this is obviously hard. But I agree Gundogan is now 4th choice midfield. Decent chance Foden moves in front of him as well by the end of the season.

I think that last point is important too, if we go into the market to replace Gundogan then we'd have to spend a small fortune for a player that will really push KDB and Silva for their starting berths, this player will likely block Foden's progress.

Don't think we can expect to have world class game changers and performers as squad players. He does a good job wherever asked I like his high energy pressing got an eye for goal and think he is massively underrated by many city fans.

I fucking give up on this thread,so many fucking experts, and they come up with absolute shite,
his 2 goals were down to being in the right place and right time not great midfield play , unberfuckingbelievable.

someone actually fucked the match off to watch how many mistakes gundogan made, wtf
then there's that nev nev, words fail me with that poster.

and we are arguing against this type of poster.
they are trying their hardest to come across as experts, but making themselves look like wums.
,are these posters put on bluemoon to get the count of posts up ?

gundogan isn't spectacular but he comes in and does a very good job of keeping the ball and moving it,but some posters on here want 2 superstars in every position when in reality football doesn't work like that.

if we got rid of ilky we dont beed a creative type player...we have that with the silvas x2 kdb fodden and even diaz. plus we have sane sterling and mahrez.
id sell gundogan and his squad place would be taken by ferna's replacement and when ferna goes we get another player of the same ilk.
Ilky is never going to be at the level of the two silvas or kdb and while he us a good player he isnt good enough in that role.
he certainly isnt giid enough in the ferna role as he isnt dynamic enough, cannt tackle, doesnt press well enough and the opposition constantly play around h8m and bypass him with ease.
he just doesnt fit within our team.....
if ypu think about it another way, he is 4th/5th choice when kdb is fit for a central role....
Funnily enough playing in the champs league i trust him more thsn playing in the premiership.

Frank Lampard did that 274 times, must be something good in it for a player
