Indeed, the romanticism of the return rarely lives up to expectations, he played 40+ last year by default, he was always returning as an impact player and would of been more useful if it played out that way, alas, pay the man up and let him enjoy the twilight end…

There has been absolutely nothing to suggest that is what is happening though. If anything, for all we know, we could be the ones holding him to his contract while looking to shift others on, when he may have found himself a move he wants.

Another likely scenario is that everything is done for his move back to Germany or Turkey and Pep wants him here to the last day, just in case of injuries or not having everyone he wants, and Gundy is on board, given his love for the club and City. There again, I may know f^eck all, just like everyone else's assumptions!

Exactly. If he's happy where he is and with his role this season, then he stays put. You can't just throw players out like an old loaf of bread.
