People were pretty happy with the prospect of signing Bruno G, Musiala, Wirtz or Wharton without ever thinking about game time for Bobb, Mcatee and O'Reilly. If Gundogan return, his minutes will probably be limited and it means we have a good midfield for cup games. Minutes will still be distributed due to the CWC being extended too.

There's a possibility the players we might be after aren't available until next Summer, I'm thinking Wirtz and Musiala. A season of Gundogan would bridge that gap nicely.

I pefer him to be a coach his best years as a player are behind him. We would still need to bridge that gap once he retires along with the likes of De Bruyne, Walker and possibly Ederson. It would be too much change in one transfer window.

Will only be short term as a player though. Even if he gets used sparingly he can still perform when called upon and his experience is invaluable. No brainer IMO.

Even for the short term it wouldn't be the wisest of choices. Serie A would be ideal for the legs

That is exactly how it was reported but people don't listen.
