We blew it with a series of 4 consecutive away defeats around Feb/March time, including the infamous mudbath at Derby with the retaken penalty. Strange as it seems we weren't really threatening to win it in the last month or so and were fortunate to get second as Ipswich fell away. The league table makes it seem slightly closer than it was. Although it was a cracking season spoiled by poor cup defeats.

And yes, the late draw against Liverpool over Christmas was a real pisser.

I remember going to the Derby County match in the back of a Transit Luton with a gang of lads from Burnage/Chorlton area.(We had booked a mini-bus with Salford Van Hire but they over booked and all they had left that morning was a Luton van.)
Driving down the A6 towards Derby we were passing through all the small towns like New Mills,Chapel, and Whaley Bridge.
And at some of the bus stops in these God forsaken places were football fans in red and white scarves waiting for public transport to take them to somewhere called Old Trafford.
We took great delight in hurling abuse at these bewildered Utd. fans as we hung perilously out of the shutter at the back of the van,and even managed a few direct hits with the odd apple core or empty Coke can .
Happy days to be a travelling City fan.

always remember late goal against everton, bob latchford late in season cost a point.

I think the main reason we didn't win the League that year was the fact Utd. beat us home and away and thus deprived us of 4 vital points.(I'm pretty sure that they won both games 3-1).I was in the scoreboard end at OT and remember the City fan being escorted round the edge of the pitch with a dart embedded in his head !!!
