2) Deyna
3) Viera
4) Schmeichel

Those two were the only truly world class players we'd ever had before the sheik.

After that, there are decent arguments for Colin Bell, Seaman, Fowler, Reid, Lee, Watson and a few others.

Kinky was wonderful for us, be he peaked with us, and we were dire at the time. Look at his overall career... world class? not a chance.

I'm not pulling out any favourites, the facts are there for all to see, the only REAL world class players we ever had were the ones we bought when they were in decline, and none of them came through the City ranks (sadly).

We are talking European and World Player of the Year with Weah.
Deyna (RIP) was a truly outstanding midfielder for Poland, deemed their greatest player ever.

The likes of David White... as 'decent' as they seemed at the time are simply not in the same league. That's sky blue coloured glasses people are looking through!

As the OP I do agree totally with you, but the point of the post was more about players WE have seen in their prime at City. The Robbie Fowler we saw was a shadow of the Liverpool Fowler, as was Weah and Schmiechel..Deyna was still a class above the rest even when he came to us. By THAT perspective, of course, the picture changes entirely...

I would think it would have to be Colin Bell, or possibly Dave Watson. Both held in fantastic regard not just from within the club, but outside too... the sort of player that other fans would put in their team (at the time) and we've not had a lot of those (before the Sheik).

My own favourite was Peter Barnes, but now I'm a lot older and sensible, I can accept he was 'rather good', but no more than that.

Joe Corrigan was unlucky too... happening to be on the scene at the same time as two amazing keepers in Clemence and Shilton.

I'm struggling with Francis and Deyna whilst at City... we weren't so good, so it's hard to say they weren't still fine players whilst with us... we're they poor, or just great players in a poor team? I'm not sure. I do remember Deyna being a fair bit 'ahead' of the rest of City whilst can sometimes make them look out of place and dopey (for playing balls that lesser players can 'read' etc).

I refuse to accept Kinkladze though. For me he was an amazing flash in the pan, but not in the same league as Bell or Watson.

Just my opinion of course!
