In defence of the Dunney Monster

I think he is a great back up and still one of our best defenders. None of our defenders are top 4 material....are we getting rid of all of them?

Should have done but too late now

TBH mate i never watch ireland, so cant comment on his performances for them. I just go on what i see for city and as i said, i just dont think hes good enough. Do you think he would get in any of the top 4 starting 11? Or IF we sign lescott, can you see him starting for us?

he would be decent back up, dont get me wrong im not slagging him off and as i stated before he has been a brilliant servant to the club. But hand on heart most city fans im sure would agree that he just isnt good enough for where we want to be.

POS voted by whom? A few thousand OS club members and it really isn't anything to boast about Never rated him he's just doing a job, cost us points on numerous occasions. A desperation defender with no class and if he starts as first choice then its top ten not top four IMHO Played well for Ireland?

how can u say that, all that matters when u put the blue jersey on is that u give 110% every week, dunney did this and i for one am greatful.

plus he's scored some cracking goals in his time, can't blame him for putting it in the wrong net.

Why does he play so well for Ireland then?

same reason Lampard is shit for england and good for chelsea.
just a mystery i guess.
Im not saying Zidunne is shite for us, far from it. the mans a model pro, he never jumped ship when we werent doing so well, even though he could have, he never gets into the press for anything.
he is just a quiet performer. i agree we have to move onwards and upwards if we want to achieve top 4 and eventually the title, but lets not forget the rungs of the ladder that helped stabilise us early on, instead of heaping all the praise on the shiny new rung at the top.
its not only about where were going, because that will mean nothing unless we remember where weve been!

toure can be top 4 material, ned has the potential to be top 4 material and so does richards(granted he's got a funnyway of showing it) dunne is 30 so probably wont get any better than he has been, he could be good back up but thats all imho!! but because he plays well for his country is entirely irrelivant, the debate on players form for club and country has and will be a debate until football no longer exisists! eg. . . . . vassell always played better and was more prolific in an england shirt than for any of his clubs, healy the same at N.Ireland, podolski for germany, veron for argentina this list goes on, the debate can be turned on its head when players dont peform club form for country and we know how many of them there are!

So who do you blame for putting in his own net?

When he's out there wearing the blue shirt he has my 110% backing and I never ever expect any player to give less than 100%

I don't remember any cracking goals except the one at Villa that the cnut Poll disallowed because Dunne took it a nano second before he blew

He's never been the same since signing that big contract last year. I'm worried everytime he gets the ball or the ball comes near him.

Sorry but nostalgia does not win football matches! Great servant etc. etc. but if Richard Dunne is first choice centre half come sep 1st we will not finish top 6, harsh but true, watched the game last night on a crappy stream via the net so perhaps people could put me right on the next point: the third goal - didn't dunne put the ball out for a corner, when it could have gone towards the halfway line ala Everton last year? For me the problem with Dunne is not a mistake i itself, it's the fact he consistently makes the same mistakes over and over! Granted I am not a dunne fan, never have and never will be, like I said great servant, can't fault his commitment etc. etc. but just an awful footballer IMO

The first goal was the fault of the left sided defender, the ball was punted across high and wide to the left, the rangers player had time to take the ball on his chest and fire the ball into the central of the goal where 2 rangers players were lurking and in goes the goal, point is left sided defender should deal with the over hit cross.

2nd and 3rd goals nothing to do with Dunne. Am i missing something here.
