In support of Hughes

1) mark hughes has bought zab, robhino, swp and kompany, thats 4 out of our best 5 players.
2) the other is steven ireland, who was shyte last season .
3)mark hughes cant be blamed for poor refereeing
4)also you cant blame him for own goals and suicidal defending
5)you cant blame him for injuries to key players (petrov, bojinov )
mark hughes should be judged at the end of the season when hes had time to bring in his own players.

I agree 100% with this.

Sensible post for once.

I think all the Hughes out threads are pathetic, since they happen when we lose and not a word is mentioned regarding Hughes when we win. However...today - im worried, for the following reasons.

1) Why drop Elano at home.
2) Why play SWP (superb right winger) in the middle.
3) Why play Vass, only just back from injury, on the right.
4) Why play Benj for 90 mins.
5) Why not put Jo on to at least give their defence something different to think about.
6) Why play Benj left wing for so long.

I cant explain the above, and im a little worried now.
I've said on here hughes should be given time but some bizzare recent tactical decisions make it hard to believe hes a top manager.

The problem is that our back four don't really know what they are doing - they're at 6's and 7's and both Dunne and Richards seem to have lost their confidence and probably the confidence in the manager. Good players don't turn shite overnight so it must be a change in tactics that has caused it.
The simple things to watch out for;

1) When Hart receives the ball, watch the back four. None of them are looking for the ball, in fact none of them are even facing the ball, as they know it's going to be hoofed up the pitch over their heads. As soon as that happens it becomes a 50/50 ball. So we turn our possession into a lottery. You will never see any of the top sides risking possession like this unless they are under pressure.

2) When the midfielders receive the ball they are encouraged to get the ball up to the forwards as quickly as possible.(Watch Hughes pointing out runs to midfielders when they receive the ball). Again this is risky, sometimes risks have to be taken to make that killer pass, however with a bit more patience by keeping possession the players we have will eventually make those killer passes without the risk of the ball coming straight back at us.

3) We don't sem to know when to slow the game down. Sometimes when you are 2-0 up, keeping the ball and putting your foot on it is a very sensible thing to do as you are dictating what tempo the game will be played at. Again all we are doing is risking losing possession by tring to make over complicated passes, and as soon as we lose possession we are putting even more pressure on the back four and Hart.

4) Playing players out of position. This has really suprised me with Hughes. Most managers know that this may cause problems with balance, but Mark Hughes still risks it. - Micah at left back rather than Ball or Garrido is madness. Playing Vassell (a centre forward) out wide right and putting SWP (a right winger if I ever saw one) in the middle is ridiculous. Play your best team not just your best players surely.

5) Making midfielders aware when it's safe to go and when it's best to stick. It's very impressive having 8 players shooting up the field, but when you are winning or drawing it's just madness. Again we are making so easy to turn attack into defence in one easy move.

There are so many of these problems ocurring all over the place and the players who have to deal with it are the defenders, they're under so much pressure it's untrue, and eventually it will get to their confidence and turn them into nervous wrecks.

The worrying thing is that Mark Hughes hasn't improved it. But may be he's waiting for the transfer window?
I'm not calling for his head, far from it, but I'm certainly not at all sure about him yet.

I suspect that come end of November we'll be bottom of the league as I can't see us doing ManUre or Arsenal and at this moment I wouldn't bet on us taking anything at Hull! Schalke will probably beat us so if all that doesn't make people wake up and realise we're heading for a shitload of trouble I don't know what will.

next 3 games hull away arsenal and rags at home we might be bottom by then ,he aint good enough he is clueless and if you cant see it u must be lookin at a brick wall why give him good money to spend in jan when he wont be here

Nice attempt but 3,4 & 5 are excuses for our current plight.
#1 - there is no point in buying players that don't augment what you have & take you forward - the truth is he has taken us backwards. Only 1 of these players were purchased with our new found wealth - if we didn't have new owners then we would really be in the sh1t because we wouldn't have had the money to buy our way out of the mess that he has put us in. This team is his team - he didn't know of the new owners when assembling his squad. This is what he put together for an assault on Europe & the top 4. We are like Spuds last season.

Yeah Sven did such a shit job. Keeping us in the top 4 until January with Vassell as our main striker what was he thinking?

As for Jose I agree bleeding rubbish with his 100m to spend. Mind you we have spent 70 mil on Hughes watch but lets wait until Hughes finally gets round to putting his stamp on things hey? Any idea how much longer he will be on that?

Barring TBH who we all know was signed to bolster numbers, please tell me which of his signings you are not happy with? I'll name a few of Svens if you are like.....
So why are we so sh1t? This is his team.

I don't know why he has suddenly become a worse manager. Maybe it's because he was a pragmatist at Blackburn, and now at City he is - for some reason best known to himself - making bizarre, naive tactical decisions and playing players out of position. He also hasn't the grit to "rest" players like Dunne and Richards when they are clearly labouring, nor to rein in our attacking tendencies when we are ahead against good sides - the Liverpool match being a prime example.

I totally agree with what you say. However, when he put this team/squad together he didn't know he would have any money in the transfer window. This was his team to take us forward - it's taken us backwards. Why have any more faith that after January it will be any different?

Can anyone tell me who supports Hughes why he would play such a defensive team against the team lying bottom of the league. We're the home team FFS, we should be taking the initiative. What the f**k has Benjani done to deserve a place so soon after injury. Jo was superb on Thurs night. Why was Vassell on instead of Elano ?. I bet old harry was pissing himself with laughter when he saw our team sheet and then the subs bench. Hughes will of course blame the ref but you can't fool the fans we know what the real problem was. Thank god for Stevie, Shauny and Robinho.

However it is also not uneasonable to point out that Hughes has had 12 league games which is not a lot of time. Plus if he had inherited a team that was going places then it would be even be more worrying but that is not what happened. We were a team showing relegation forms when he joined.
Hull have had 12 games so far this season too - new players & players who have never played in this division before.

Kinnear & Redknapp both inherited teams that were going nowhere & were showing relegation form when they arrived - we've taken 1 point off them.

Are you saying that Hughes isn't up to it?

Here's my take on the situation:

1) Hughes is tactically inept for a team with aspirations to break into the top 4 or challenge for Europe. Can any Hughes supporter point out any successful team (EPL,European,International) that play the way we do - humping the ball forward from the back & playing off the "second ball" in the final third? No successful team does this - they may have done so 10 years ago but the game has changed. The top teams keep possession - they build from the back - they play both short & long & mix it up - but predominantly they keep the ball. If we have the ball the opposition can't score. SGE had us playing this way last season & for the most part it was successful (although it went a little stale in the second half of the season & needed mixing up a bit too). We have a lot of technically gifted players in our squad & need to play to our strengths - putting the ball in the air to Robhino, Ireland, SWP is never going to work. Get the bastard thing on the green stuff & play these fuckers off the park.

2) Hughes never knew we had all this money at our disposal so the squad of players he has now was always going to be the team we would see the season out with - possibly with a little tinkering in January. The squad is a very good squad - at the start of the season we were talking about us possibly only being 1 or 2 players off the top 4. Now we're talking about using the January transfer window as a means to keep us out of the bottom 4. How can it go so appallingly bad?

3) Dunne isn't playing well this season - I think he is playing with an injury - he needs to be taken out of the spotlight to get his head together. This should have happened before today & I don't think Hughes is being fair with him (although it is his "get out of jail free" card in that Dunne becomes Hughes' scapegoat). That is piss poor management.

4) The Elano situation - he isn't suited to playing the Hughes way (see 1 above). He should have been sold & replaced by some neanderthal who is suited to the Hughes way.

5) He has been found out - it normally takes a season or two for teams to "work out" new players - it has taken a couple of seasons to "work out" Hughes & his very limited tactical ability. The reason he doesn't make those game changing substitutes is because he doesn't know how to.

He isn't the one to lead us to the promised land (unless the promised land is the Championship).

After today's abomination does anyone have anything they can contribute in support of "Coco"?

Spot on that. Can't wait untill we have a fully fit sqaud and 4 or 5 top class new players.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/manchester_city/s/1086655_hughes_expects_to_stay" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... ts_to_stay</a>

I dont know what to make of our fucking club right now.

In support of Hughes...........NO..............1 point against WBA would have been a poor result, but losing to the bottom team that were there for the taking. A player scoring his first goal in 28 games for WBA, and we make Roman Bednar look world class......come on give us a break.
