Aside from the Rags and Liverpool, which teams used to bring large away followings to Maine Road? I suspect Leeds might be in this list as well.

For much of the mid-1960s the teams with the biggest away followings at Maine Road were the likes of Bolton, Preston, Sunderland, etc.

Everton always brought plenty late 70s.

Remember a game v Norwich when there single fan was moved from the Kippax so we could use the away section.

Spurs arriving in white butchers coats singing "we are evil"

Is anyone old enough to remember the last game of the season against Burnley in 1960? That's a famous game for them because they won the league at our place. They must have brought a massive following for that.

The biggest away followings tended to be for FA Cup games. Newcastle, Boro and Sunderland all brought plenty

The attendance at that game was 65,981.....we lost 2-1, Burnley had a great team in those days.

As a footnote, it's nice to see them back in the premiership, one of the nicer smaller clubs with a very loyal fan base.

I was at that game as a young schoolboy. As I recall it was rearranged and played on a Monday night - extremely rare in those days as all, and I mean ALL midweek matches were played on Weds nights and at 7.30 pm too. None of the adapt KO's we have to put up with nowadays. Everyone else had finished their league matches and so Burnley know just what they had to do. Yes, Burnley were a really good side then. I also remember going to watch them play Oldham at Boundary Park as champions in a friendly to officially open the floodlights. Ray Pointer, Jimmy McIlroy, Jimmy Adamson etc. What a team that was.

I read somewhere that the only time they were top of the league that season was at the final whistle.

Newcastle were everywhere when they got drawn at home to city in the fa cup, but had to play at Maine rd because of pitch invasion in a previous round against forest , that was one of the largest away followings in that era.
