In the 60's & 70's (Away followings)

Newcastle were everywhere when they got drawn at home to city in the fa cup, but had to play at Maine rd because of pitch invasion in a previous round against forest , that was one of the largest away followings in that era.

Yes, I remember it well. Another in a long line of Typical City games - drawn away but played at home and went on to lose the game against all the odds.

I also remember us playing Newcastle in an FAC replay a couple of years before that at Maine Road when the old scoreboard end was absolutely full of Geordies, plus plenty of them in the Kippax in pre-segregation days. They must have brought around 10,000 with them that night.

United were at home on the same day as the second City v Newcastle game. Carnage in town afterwards.
