He’s a nice guy and his neighbours are stunned apparently

You read that report & it shows why the attacks on the driver have made a bad situation worse. Why haven’t those been identified & arrested.

The drivers life is ruined, if he’s on drugs I’ve very little sympathy, hopefully none of the victims have life changing injuries but that seems unlikely.

from the daily mail 'he's a nice guy' 'provoked by the mob' 'panicked'...

yeah, now imagine if he'd been brown.

he tailgated an ambulance.

he's been arrested on susp of driving whilst unfit through drugs-that means he displayed signs of being impaired by drugs...

he ploughed through dozens of people indiscriminately

and you want to make excuses for his behaviour?

We do need to hear more about him and what led him to act as he did but as to his well being in hospital he has no sympathy from me after what he did.
I doubt it was premeditated and possible just a series of events and consequences that ultimately led to tragedy. Lots of mitigating factors but essentially he chose to get in his car and drive. A decision that I hope he genuinely regrets but also has to be accountable for. There's lots of ifs and buts and until the police and authorities do their job we'll never know. Even Tracy on TikTok is bemused by it all

Fella on GMB then. Wife was dragged under the car away from him and his baby flung into the air out of his pram. I can’t even imagine how helpless that bloke must have felt during that.

but we dont know it wasn't premeditated-I'd be v wary of trying to find excuses for his behaviour.

the police may look to extend again today-the additional time clearly points to something other than somebody who lives in a cul de sac (sic) and panicked under attack....and then admitted all that in interview.

he made deliberate choices-poss to take drugs (we can make an assumption from his impairment arrest) and he chose to get in his car and tailgate an ambulance into a crowded area. There were thngs in his mind prior to having the car attacked..

Was listening to the Newsagents podcast earlier. It had nothing to do with this incident; they were talking more broadly about drug laws (specifically cannabis).

They were discussing the case of a 17 year old whose car was rear-ended at some traffic lights. Both drivers were tested for drink and drugs. The 17 year old's came back positive for weed, but this was 4 days after he'd last consumed any. Obviously, we're taking his word for that, but if true, he clearly wouldn't still be impaired, yet he ultimately lost his licence for driving under the influence of drugs.

A lot of people have jumped to the conclusion that the driver in Liverpool was "off his head on coke," but if the above story is anything to go by, that might not necessarily be the case. Just another reason why we should wait to see what comes out in court.

No it doesnt

It means he was tested at above the legal limit for a controlled substance. That’s all

He could have given the ball a good kick the night before and tested over the limit later

Might sound picky but it does not mean he was wandering round the custody suite hallucinating and speaking in tongues

He is staying with the police as they do not have enough for attempted murder. That is clear, there is enough footage to show that he didn't set out to murder anyone and within that footage shows him slowly working his way through, beeping when pedestrians are crossing him and even a video where he breaks sharply to make sure he doesn't hit someone.

His defence will still be his actions were caused in panic and distress at the yobs smashing his widows. There is no reasonable explanation to then excuse his actions but that will be his defence. Attempted murder wont stick and why CPS are probably wanting more. As mad as it sounds it could end up being driving dangerously, driving under the influence, GBH? Maybe but again it is down to intent and he can reasonably argue his sole intention was to get out of that road, not ram people out the way intentionally to harm them. It isn't clear cut at all and if it was there wouldn't be a need for any extensions in holding him.

possibly he was tested (after a RTC as standard) OR he displayed clear signs of impairment.

Agree. There's no way he ends up being charged with attempted murder. Would be far too difficult to prove.

Agree I don't understand why the police are going down the attempted murder charge.
Attempted Manslaughter is more likely, unless the police have found proof in his house or car that he set out to kill people.
