Injuries - 2023/24 | Ederson cleared to return to training (p 146)

Read that a stressed bone can take up to 6 weeks to heal and then it's all about fitness.
One of my teenagers has a broken foot right now (exactly the same as an elite athlete, I know) and we’ve been told these are actually easier to heal than a stress fracture. Regardless, the biggest issue is strength loss in the surrounding tissues during the period of immobilization (that allows the bone to heal). Although they’ve never said exactly what the issue is with Haaland so who knows. It seems like if it really is a break or fracture six weeks would be the minimum - that’s pretty much the minimum they told us for lower extremity bone growth. My son goes to the orthopedic next week - I can ask her what she thinks about Haaland. Hah.

But he won't be match fit.
Pep will usually start players on the hour when returning from injury. The next game they will start and play 60 min. That’s been his modus operandi. It will probably take 4-5 games to get him fully match fit after the lengthy lay off he’s had.
I just don’t see the point of risking him in a game where he’s not needed. It’s not exactly as if we don’t have cover v the likes of Huddersfield (no disrespect intended)

When are we likely to see any of these four again?
I mean, we couldn't have two easier games coming up if we tried, and both are at home, so I'd be amazed it any of them feature in either of those.

You'd imagine the Newcastle away game in two weeks would be a better target, but again, after that game there's another 2 week break until Burnley at home.

So, my guess would be they won't be rushed back in January.

So, nothing wrong with doing that v Huddersfield, when the game is hopefully done. Why would they be interested in kicking him all over ? They won't be playing against him again this season.

We have a couple of weeks, now, to regroup. The injured players can be rested and we should have enough to beat Sheffield United and Huddersfield without risking key players who are not quite ready. Pep might give Kev and Erling a few minutes if the next two games are won, to get up to speed, but he is a better coach than I will ever be, so let us see

Ok then
Scenario is he brings him on with the game won on the hour and KDB gets injured
What do you think the general opinion would be??
For me it’s a risk not worth taking in a game that doesn’t warrant it, but it’s just my opinion mate….

I really don’t think they’d put him on if he wasn’t ready. I mentioned above my 13 yo has a broken foot. We just found out what the return the sports protocol looks like from his doctor and Physical Therapist. It’s overwhelming- and this is for a 13 yo playing school sports no one cares about that mean nothing. I can’t imagine what they put them through at City before they can return.

However, They did explain that once you’ve had a severe injury, your body looses some of its “responsiveness” for lack of a better word. There is always the chance you’ll get injured again - even if you delay your return. Assuming you’ve passed all the return to sports protocol, there isn’t any reason to wait longer. You could wait a year and you’ll still have some risk.

I guess what I’m saying is that although there is a science to this that City can very much control, there is also something totally luck based that you can’t - some people never have an injury again while some do, even with doing everything right. I can’t imagine anyone is better with the science part than City.

You can also totally ignore all of this because Im obviously not a doctor.

I’m sure I saw pictures of Haaland and Doku training last week. Did I dream that? If not, what the fuck happened? They have both completely disappeared, are they seriously injured and if so, how come there is no news?

Don't like the term easy games usually comes back and bites us in the arse.
That said I totally agree with what you said chris 85 :-)

As a club we do keep our cards close to our chest regarding injuries , which is frustrating for supporters but probably the correct way to do things , why give our opposition a heads up on the availablity of players ?
Wouldnt be surprised if KDB is eased back into the team from the bench , he is getting on a bit :}
