Injuries 2024/25 | Ake & Bobb return to training

You can't really legislate for the amount of injuries we have at the moment, but many voiced their concerns at the start of the season that the squad was too small. It felt like a big risk at the time, and it looks to have backfired already. Just need to get through the next two league games, and hope we can get bodies back after the international break.
It’s only ‘backfired’ to those who don’t want to give some extremely talented youngsters a chance.

I’d rather see O’Reilly or Wright than another £50 million pound couple of players come in on the odd occasion and not perform.

They’re good enough to play against the likes of Bournemouth and Brighton with experience around them.

They need chances and are now getting them.

He wont even be there next week by the sounds of it. I'd say the Lisbon game is the one game we can rest players in.
Oh, I thought everyone was generally agreeing he will be at Sporting until the international break?

1) O'Reilly needs to play in his actual position because midfield isn't working for him. Wright was pretty good though.
2) academy players also have games, we can't flog them out either or we'll ruin them. It's better to get 1 senior player in January
3) Brighton and Bournemouth away are NOT easy games

Along with the idiots who think it's down to having too small a squad (ignoring the 8 injured players) there's some whoppers on here.
It's also down to the fact that players simply aren't performing. I don't know why Gundo was taken off but I doubt Kovacic was supposed to play yesterday. Gundo's performances have been nothing short of underwhelming in midfield. Foden can't pick up form. Silva looks fatigued. Even if we got everyone back this season except Rodri it wouldn't change our midfield woes. We've got nunes but I doubt Pep wants to play him in midfield. We've only got 3 players in midfield that can put in a decent tackle and so far only Kovacic and Silva have shown they can do that when there's a turnover.

That wasn't true against Spurs last night who are just below Brighton and just above Bournmouth?

I very much hope you're right. There were encouraging signs last night from the youngsters, but we've got three tough away games coming up. I guess we'll find out over the next week or so if they're ready to step up.

Whoever is available we have to win next Tuesday, the rags next manager getting any kind of result against us is unthinkable!
Don't think it's a particularly big deal, let them cling on to that if they want but have to focus on the season overall.

We can afford to drop points in that game. Bournemouth and Brighton a much bigger priority.

Bournemouth beat Arsenal. It’s not going to be easy. Same with Brighton they are 6th in the table and have dominated games with their midfield. Both teams press high energy. Throwing youngsters in against that would be a massive risk

All injured, not a bad team that.

I said in a previous page on here that I think we will win narrowly and they'll give us a game just as they did last season, They are doing OK this season, Nothing beyond that.

Yes they have beaten Arsenal and deservedly on the day, We also need to put things into perspective, They've been beaten by Leicester, Chelsea and Liverpool (convincingly) along with draws against Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, They also got absolutely battered by Everton at Goodison and somehow managed to score three late goals in a game which could and should have been 5 or 6-0.

We do have injuries, But we will still have a seriously good side going to Bournemouth and getting a victory. This team is a juggernaut, We'll find a way to win regardless of how we play on the day.

Perhaps " those who don't want to give extremely talented youngsters a chance " have perfectly valid reasons for those decisions, based upon their experience of managing young players ?

Posters on BM, whilst obviously very knowledgeable, are not necessarily able to make such judgements, not being in full knowledge of all the circumstances which go into making those type of decisions.

They perhaps need to be given chances when the best opportunities for doing so are present.

It is why managers, coaches, medical staff , at clubs are paid as highly as they are......imo

I don't think we helped ourselves last night.

I understand Pep wants to play sides to try and won every game/competition. Given the injury situation we were already in though putting out the players we did wasn't great thinking imho

O'Reilly is not even close to being good enough.
