Injuries 2024/25 | Ake & Bobb return to training

Rodri is likely to be beset with such injuries throughout his recovery, meaning his availability this coming season will be constantly interrupted. We’ve known this prognosis since September, yet there continues to be no viable alternative.
We have Kovacic and Nico Gonzalez who both played well there at the end of last season and we've just added Reijnders to the set-up. They're not as good as Rodri but that's not "no viable alternative".

We had Kovacic and Gonzalez last season. Kovacic is effective but he's not as good as Rodri.

We could not defend against counter-attacks last night. And last season with Kovacic and Gonzalez, Pep decided to play fullbacks in many games instead of wide forwards to reduce the number of counter-attacks.

I think the only solution at the club to this is Rodri and hence it is very worrying that he went off. It suggests his rehab is going to be problematic.

Kovacic is currently injured and could be headed out the door. Gonzalez only got into the team at the end because Kovacic was sent off against Bournemouth, and his 61 minutes in the CWC against the weakest team suggests he is still not trusted. Reijnders admits he is not a defensive midfielder and has never played in the League yet. That leaves us with Lewis or Nunes, neither of whom can be trusted to play alone in there, or a combination of Gundogan/Silva and their legs have gone.

I stand by the 'no viable alternative'. If Palace and Al-Hilal can pick us off, then better teams will, too.

That’s right, always like an optimistic post ;-)

Looking at this last night it's probably a niggle that needs rest.

We had Jurrien Timber have a similar injury to Rodri at the start of the 23/24 season. He was out for the whole season and came back last year and basically was able to play 65/70 minutes most matches, missed a few, and then needed to come off. He's had some surgery now to resolve it.

Every recovery is different but I reckon that's what you'll see with Rodri as he's such an explosive player right in the middle of the park that I think you'll see a similar thing. He'll probably come off most games at 60 minutes and will need to be rested for the easier matches but it will aid his long term recovery. I can see plenty of arguments between City and Spain next season btw.

Any one heard anything about Haaland injury? Or Foden looked to be limping too?
