Injuries 2025/26 | Doku ruled out for three weeks (p46)

I'd still give him a contract that suits both parties. Pay as you play like, get him on the coaching staff. However the long term target has to be English back up, Guehi is developing nicely, Branthwaite is a crock, Quansah and Konsa are decent for clubs but I wouldn't want to pay big money

Reis comes in, Stones goes.
John Stones is a supreme player. He is no longer first choice.
Injury free, he would be considered the world's best defender.
His body, not his skill, has let him down.

As for the here and now, we are covered at the back, but with Rodri, Kovacic and Stones all injured, we are very heavily reliant on Gonzalez, which we know is a dangerous recipe. I think it is time to consider Nico O in central midfield. Ake/Ait-Nouri are very capable of playing the left-back role.

Yeah that kid has a call back for anytime we want but knowing how we do stuff he will stay at Girona rest of the season

I did mean at the end of the season, tbf.
With Ake and Ait-Nouri and Khusanov, we probably have enough until then.
Of course, we also have Mfuni waiting in the wings...a diamond, IMO.

He'll still have a part to play this season, undoubtedly frustrating as it is. After that, might do him good to play somewhere with a bit less pressure maybe

I believe stones gets a new contract. You can't have 8/9 starting defenders in their prime years and keep them all happy.

Stones is aging and we know about his injury record but that makes him ideal to fill the squad cover role if he is realistic about his status. Much better to have a vastly experienced Stones play 10-20 games for us than have to replace him with somebody unproven and/or young and then have to deal with at least 1, maybe more players constantly wanting to leave at the end of the season for more football. His wages will have to come down a fair bit to reflect this status but seems ideal scenario to me.
We're now playing a type of football that is demanding greater levels of fitness and stamina, and despite all he's done for us before, I don't think Viana will be offering Stones a renewal. Based on current form and long-term prognosis, the only senior player currently worth consideration of a new contract is Silva. However, both Stones and Silva are very close and I still expect them to bow out at the end of this season.

We definitely wanted Reis to remain last summer, and he's heeded our advice by going to Girona, so it'll be time to reintegrate him.

I understand the frustration people have with John’s injuries but people slagging him off for wanting to play for his country is a bit off for me. He didn’t get injured playing for England (this time) and the reality is that he is injury prone and it’s always going to happen whether he plays for England or not. He’s played the equivalent of less than 4 league games for us this season and that isn’t due to him playing for his country. My main sentiment is get fit John asap and hopefully play a meaningful role in us winning the league and England doing well in the World Cup. And I for one don’t blame you for either being injury prone or wanting to play for your country.

He didn’t get injured at the International because he played for us after that break.
What is happening if Stones and Rodri are still injured. Is it the way we train or just bad luck?
I’m gutted. :-) :-(
I don’t think it’s the way we train. The coaching bench has changed completely this year but the results are the same. I doubt there is a problem in the medical dept, so it’s most likely the frailty of these players.
