Injuries 2025/26 | Gvardiol tibia fracture (p59) Dias 4-6 weeks (p70)

What gets me is that we seem to miss the obvious red flags time.

The season before last Rodri missed 5 or 6 games through suspension and we lost every one. It was obvious we needed a better back up but gambled, and lost hugely last season when he got injured and our season fell apart.

Last season Stones and Ake proved we simply could not rely on them. Yet went ahead with them as our back up and yet another season is tossed away.

Maybe it can be salvaged if we can bring someone in quickly - but if Ake and Khusa is the only option then we are gonna have big problems.

Even when Dias is not playing well - he is the leader and organiser. Khusa and Ake are mute on the pitch - and with our makeshift full backs it’s not gonna be pretty this month.

Funnily enough, came on to say something similar with regard to the CB situation. Neither Ake or Stones have been reliable for quite some time, hate to say it but it’s only a matter of time before Ake is injured again. We’re going to be chucking Khusanov in the deep end again and I suspect he’ll hold his own, but there needs to be a serious look at the squad this off season cos we can’t go on like this ffs.

I think there is a huge range of options with any tibial break so it’s impossible to know where it is on “is this the worst” scale. I imagine we’ll never get that detail. And because they usually do surgery on them (even sometimes for tibial stress fractures), who knows. I imagine there are lots of worse options especially those that involve multiple bones - a tib/fib or one of those and an ankle bone too?

Alarming to keep Stones and Ake on the payroll last summer for another season. If Pep has no idea when Stones will be able to return that almost seems like the medical team have thrown their hands up trying to work out if he will ever play for City again. Both need to be gone when this season is over. Looks like we'll have to go full in on Guehi and pay him and Palace a hefty premium to move in January.
How do you get them off the payroll?

Most PL clubs seem to have several players injured at this stage of the season. Arsenal are lucky right now with so few. That luck could change with their gruelling schedule.

City play to a high intensity. Look at the stats for each game. We cover more ground than any other team we play. Pep likes a smaller squad plus we are normally playing 3 games per week. This means our players are more vulnerable to injuries and burn out. That said, the recent injuries to Dias and Gvardiol both happening at the same time is just bad luck.

Where will Phillips have gone by next season? Either we pay him off or maybe loan him to a lower championship team with us paying his wages but we are stuck with him.

Nobody will buy Grealish either, it will probably be a loan with us paying vast majority of his wages.
They're both effectively gone. Loan or sales, if they want to play again, they need to move. The urgency of a World Cup year expires soon.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this earlier in the thread, but is recalling Akanji back from loan an option?

Arsenal have had a horrendous injury problem this season - it's only now that most players are back. But this season Arsenal have been without Gabriel, Saliba, White, Timber, Calafiori, Mosquera, Saka, Gyokeres, Odegaard, Havertz for multiple matches. We played at Villa with a makeshift back 4 and in some games had to have Rice at right back and Norgaard at CB.

Too many matches. I think City being at the Club World Cup in the summer isn't going to help either.

Yup, a lot of teams seem to have had a lot of injuries this season, even Fernandes at the rags has missed a game or two. But there are a lot of variables involved in how it effects a team, such as severity of injuries. For example an ACL meaning you lose the Ballon d'or winner, playing at his peak for a year, is a bit different to losing, say, Kobbie Mainoo for a couple of games.

And, also, of course, the fixture list is fundamental. Losing both your centre halves when your fixture list, before you even get one of them back includes Newcastle (a), united (a), liverpool (a) spurs (a) and Arsenal (h) is not great.

Then, of course, losing players long-term, has a wider implication. Smaller squad now, the implications of which are obvious or panic buy, buying who is available in January for top dollar rather than who you actually want, thereby affecting your summer transfer plans and your finances.

All in all, it's a bit of a shitshow but, this being City, we'll do our best, adjust our expectations accordingly and acknowledge that we're luckier than teams at the bottom of the table who suffer as badly without the resources to patch up their squad.

Manchester City were the pioneers of the DEXA scan for elite footballers.
It is installed at the Academy medical facility, space age, World class.

All players are regularly monitored, for bone density.
Shouldn't have happened then eh, must have been a one off brutal attack that didn't happen, who knew overuse injuries were a thing of the past.
Seems like the magic sponge needs coming back:-)
