Injuries 2025/26 | Kovacic could be ruled out for further 3-4 months (p37)

I'm hopeful that the only players out for the derby will be Cherki, Marmoush, Kovacic and Ait-Nouri (assuming @Manchester33's info is correct, and he sounds certain).

I think a lot of the others got convenient niggles/knocks to swerve international duty, and will be available for the weekend. Some of the injury lists doing the rounds are doomsday scenarios.

If we do need to play Nunes in forward positions at least he can’t do the damage he does when he’s in defensive ones

Its just a situation of Peps own making.
You can still have a big squad but where 3 or 4 of the players may not be " world class" level but capable of stepping in during cup games and situations like now where half the team seem to be injured.
On last transfer deadline day we shipped out several players and left our panel short.
Every team seems to have a few players , not quite first choices, who are more than capable of filling in.
These players will probably still end up playing 20 matches in the season.

Stones might be out too. Foden has been training for a while too, and yet not playing.
 
Last season, we started well, then came the injuries due to lack of recovery time after various Fifa and Uefa tournaments. This season, we started badly, due to losing experienced players leaving and the meaningless Club World Cup interrupting the summer, and new players having no time to gel. Then came the injuries. It is time the idiots who claim to run World and European football started to understand that they do not own the players, the clubs pay their wages, and the fans and sponsors pay the clubs. Fifa and Uefa make the rules, but they don’t actually pay anything towards the clubs, the players, the sponsors or the fans who pay to watch. In effect, Fifa and Uefa are taxing us to play to their rules. This is surely corruption on a Worldwide scale.

I am not sure about the cause of the injuries. Is the injury rate going up for all sides? City were very badly affected last season compared to other sides. Perhaps its just the way it goes after a relatively injury free period? I don't think it's so much the number of injuries that is important but losing key players and their back up at the same time. Last season our bad run in Nov, Dec (when we played Utd at the Eithad) included games when Rodri and Kovacic were out.

I think City in 2024-25 were incapable of playing at high intensity. Last home Derby we had KDB, Walker and Gundogan and their legs had gone. KDB did not show up in the last 2 FA Cup Finals. Those games were embarrassing but I don't think it had much to do with Pep unless you want to argue that we should have rebuilt earlier. Pep went on record as saying it was his fault that we did not do so.
