No two ways about it, this is a huge blow. Arguably a bigger loss than KDB last season. I know we have players who can slot in and do a job but for me he’s in the top 3 players in the world in his position.
Gutted if it’s long term.
Agreed Laporte will be a big miss, I think in the League we can cope although I would have concerns how Otamendi and Stones would cope against the Scousers away. But a Stones and Ota cb pairing in the CL knockout stages would not fill me with confidence

no point guessing.....but surprised no-one has posted this picture that is going round on twitter in the last hour....just passing it on! (note: knee brace and crutches...)

I’ve studied those cobbles and searched Google Earth using advanced algorithms.

Eric’s in Rochdale.

Bottom line is we miss vinny,he gave us huge depth in talent and in leadership,if he was still here i wouldn't be as worried without eric

Must be waiting on swelling to reduce so unlikely to be structural eg they’d know if dislocated through xray? So more likely ligaments? Both?
Anything broken would have been found straight away at the hospital, ligaments you have to wait for the swelling to go down,i'm only guessing but i think the next news will be he's had an operation

You’re probably correct Karen
It seems our management deal with facts once they are sorted, in a similar way to how they deal with transfers.
Press releases only happen once things are done and dusted.
I quite like that.

For those soft arses saying a potential bad injury to Aymeric Laporte will derail our league season, please put your money where your mouths are as you can still back the dippers at 11:4. Meanwhile Pep and the rest is us will do what we do best, and fight to the end
Without looking back at the thread, because I can’t be arsed. Has there been many people saying the season will be derailed or have most been just a bit gutted he’s njured?

Glyn Pardoe's account of his broken leg operation (brought about by by George Best) with his wife at his bedside as the surgeons battled to save his leg and potentially even his life was one of the most moving things I have had heard on radio. Happily he is still around with his childhood sweetheart. Interestingly he asks how good would our modern players far on pitches he played on - the old Baseball Ground being one that jumps to mind when the dozy ref lost the penalty spot in the mud aqnd booked Joe Corrigan for correctly showing wear the spot should be.

In the years to come we had two great careers halted by 'knees' for Colin Bell and Paul Lake. Both left questions of what could they have achieved and what could City have achieved if they had a full career. Now we have another gem in Eric I dearly hope he will be ok preferably in the short term and back soon but would be happy to wait until he is fully back to his usual form.

Well let’s hope Glynn’s grandson can make him proud in a couple of years.

Surgery on ligaments has gotten better exponentially since the 90's and would be completely unrecognisable to the guy who tried to fix Bell's knee in 1975. ACL's used to be career enders, or at least injuries which would change a player forever, and now it's common for players to not have any lasting effects.

I dare say if Gundogan had been playing back then he'd never have set foot on a pitch again after his 2 huge injuries, and if Lake was playing in 2019 he could possibly have been back by the end of the season.

Lakey's injury was just a bit earlier than Gazza's although the latter came back OK. There was a lot of talk that Swales wouldn't pay for top whack doctors for Lakey. Whatever, City and England lost a great player and possibly captain.

Hope modern medical science is prepared for my arthritic knee. Last time I had a knee prob it turned out to be referred pain from my hip!
