this is where MP needs to adapt his system and not religiously stick to two central midfielders and tow forwards.......with a lack of fitness/sharpness in the squad and with fernando missing the likes of arsenal will pass around yaya and whoever partners him

Lampard could play a p part of a 5 man midfield esp in europe...his experience will be vital in that game

for the nexxt few games with fernando injured id play a 5 man midfield to make us more solid....we saw what happens when we get exposed esp with our full back pushed so high (Vs stioke).......individuals were at fault(Hart and Kolorov particularly ) but we were left exposed by the way we play as well and arsenal and munich will definitely look to take advantage of that on the break and have the players to do so

if vinny wasnt so vital at the back id be tempted to play him in the holding role as MP did with MDM (which was disasterous) once last season.......but thats a definite no go!

Fernando out for 2 weeks, Jovetic ruled out of tomorrow. Not unexpected really.

The frustrating thing about that is that Fernando was bought for weeks like next week.

Fernandinho got injured during a similar week last season and it cost us. I think we had Chelsea, Wigan and Barcelona. Something like that. He was a big loss.

Games like the next three are where Ya Ya gets exposed at the back of the midfield.

It's certainly going to make for an entertaining game with both sides being vulnerable on the counter attack

this is where MP needs to drill fernandihno into not making those runs forward.......he must make sure he is disciplined and not get caught square of yaya or indeed further forward of him or we are hugely exposed

With Fernando out and Fernandinho looking poor for a while now, I think it's time to give Lampard a go.

I googled Lampard and Alonso yesterday and found a story when Lampard broke Alonso's ankle in 2005 and that Lampard got red for a tackle against him in 2010. I am no EPL expert and just looked into it for some moments yesterday. Is there more about it?

Agreed. F'dinho has been shadow of himself ever since that horror display in wc semi that no way should he start. that probably leaves Lamps as our best option. (Though personally I'd play Milner but that ain't gonna happen.

Fernandinho will start simply because he is the only midfielder fit who can play the holding role, which he adapted to last season. Take him out and we may as well vacate the midfield and offer Arsenal a free route. Lampard isn't a defensive midfielder, Yaya isn't a defensive midfielder, Milner isn't a defensive midfielder (or a central midfielder at all in the eyes of Pellegrini, apparently). And Demichelis was a disaster there against Chelsea. Better for Fernandinho to play his way into form than sit on the bench while we have no protection at all in midfield.

no way, Lampards way past it and his legs are gone. Sheff Weds is probably the right match for him. Even tho Lampard is more mobile than Garcia but still.

No Aguero, or Jovatic, or Zabba available for tomorrow. They have all been in for medicals between yesterday and today!

So we are left with only one striker! Sigh!
