Will be great to see him back but a mistake to expect any miracles. It might be the start of next season before he’s back to his best.
Think so, I'm expecting a couple of muscle injuries between coming back and the end of the season. Will need a good pre season hopefully he isn't selected by France.

I have seen Pep's comment. I disagree. The problem is personnel. We have the same issues as we did in Pep's first season where we can't defend against forwards who run at our defence and that is because we have Fernandinho and Otamendi playing regularly in defence. Stones and Laporte are very capable of doing that but have rarely played. As they return we will get stronger but obviously it will take them some time to reach their best as it did with Mendy. The Palace equaliser started in midfield with Rodri weak in the tackle, and Cancelo out of position. I don't think that's typical of City.

My worry is that Laporte may return and end up partnering Fernandinho because Stones will be out. No one can play properly if they play two games on and then 4 off.

How quick memories fade. Our defence last season was excellent and that was without a specialist left back.

My memory is fine Marvin.
Our attack is sensational. Don't misunderstand me. We score lots as a team. However, we can not shut up shop as a team.
At best a team will have a great chance and we rely on them missing that chance. Luckily its not often we do need to hold on as we are usually 2/3 up but when we do we are a shambles and cant do it. Its a huge flaw in a near perfect system. Even with Kompany and Laporte it wasn't possible.

Agree with a lot of that. Laporte would not have been in any better place to stop their 2nd goal than F'dinho. We lost the ball in mid when we were trying to clear our lines, Cancelo was taken out by a single pass and Stones one on one with Zaha is as good as any other CB against Zaha with that kind of build up at best you take him away from goal and make him cross and that is what he did. The bigger issue is they scored of a corner - a constant problem for us, and we didn't score until far too late in the game - lots of chances missed in both halves.

I refer you to Twosips post just above.

plus when you’re going to have all the ball like we do and need to break teams down Pep is hardly likely to play 2 holding midfielders. The problem Saturday was his selection and it’s as simple as that. Stones is shite and Laporte will obviously hugely improve us.

Our defensive record was brilliant with Kompany and Laporte at centre back.

pep doesn't have a defensive tactic, its keep the ball, press & pass. the style we play we will always let goals in cheaply regardless who we have at the back.

A huge boost when he returns for you. It’s sad to see any player suffer a bad injury and despite how depleted the city back line is his return has to done methodologically so hopefully there will not be any nonsense like 60 mins the first time he’s back in the team.

I would see him as the 2nd best CB in the league behind Van Djik so he will obviously improve things but not to the level most are expecting and certainly not straight away.

Last season City barely gave the ball away, never mind giving up a shot or a goal. As an outsider I would have viewed the 2 Silva's as being the key to this. David looks finished and Bernardo's form has fallen off a cliff, add in teams being able to defend 10 yards higher because there is no Sane to worry about in behind and I think those 3 things are a bigger issue than Laporte being absent.

We could shut up shop when De Jong was the DM. Ferny could do exactly the same job as De Jong, but there is no one who can take Ferny's DM responsibilities as effectively as Ferny would do! An attacking outfit like City is always vulnerable, but add kamikaze defending to that vulnerability and we are left thinking that we're gonna let a goal in at every turn.

Yes, I find it hard to believe it is all down to Laporte being injured. To add to your list we have two centre halves in Ota and Stones who have been poor, LB being more of an issue this season, introducing a new player who is the fulcrum of the system (Rodri), not enough legs around Rodri to compensate for his lack of mobility compared to Ferna and regular injuries to key players such as KDB.

I honestly don't think teams defend higher up the pitch. They can't do as we still have pace in Sterling and Mahrez, Jesus, Bernardo and KDB are hardly Crouch like in terms of speed.
