Insomnia-how to beat it?

I normally listen to radio. Talking only, either 5live or Talksport to wind me down. Then turn off and go sleep.

Serious answer.....

Assuming there is no underlying cause, for example depression.

Buy some "one a night" "Sleepeze" tablets from Boots....about £5.50....no prescription needed....

It says take one 20 mins before you go to bed, but try between one hour and two hours, you should sleep like a baby...

They are for short term use only, but I would take them for a week, and then maybe once every three days....

A hot milky drink like Horlicks usually helps too....

Also leave something like this on in the background.....

Unfortunately you cant take these if you are on Statins.
Have suffered for 30 years with insomnia and my GP has diagnosed all sorts but to no avail.
Am only allowed 28 Sleeping Tablets in a six month period and for others like me,nice to discuss with you on Blue Moon anything form 02.00am onwards.
It really is no laughing matter and at times the biggest fear (for want of a better word) are the illusionations (spel) that can really take over your entire
sleeplessness.

Suffer from Insomnia on and off but my main problem is that i suffer from "delayed sleep phase syndrome" My natural sleeping pattern seems to be around about the time people would normally be getting up for work between about 5-7am i tend to sleep the usual length of time given no interruptions and i'm naturally wide awake during the night. Makes it very frustrating when i lie in bed for hours on end not being able to sleep. I'll often just skip sleep some nights and try to power through the day and then get an early night and reset my body clock. Unfortunately, that's getting harder to do the older i get. Only thing i've found that even remotely helps is to pop my earphones in one ear and listen to something like a podcast

When I was on predisone I had it bad for a few weeks, and for the first time in my life over Christmas I got it for a few weeks without the cause of drugs. The thing that worked for me was hot chocolate with a shot of brandy in it before bed. I guess it relaxed me enough to kip. Not the sort of thing to rely on. Thankfully it's not come back as the next day without any kip is surreal and exhausting
